Is there anyone out there who specializes in sculpting 10mm?

Alternate question — who is your favorite 10mm sculptor?

Bardolph12 Jul 2006 10:27 a.m. PST

Roderick Campbell does nice work.

Yup, can't go wrong with Rod. I've watched him sculpting 10mm stuff at his booth at the HGMSE shows, it is fascinating!

err…HMGSE

I don't know who did the original Pendraken SYW range, but he has to rank amongst the best. The GHQ sculptor, the Minifigs WWII sculptor, and Mark Copplestone are of course excellent, as is Steve Barber, but not I think for hire (as they "are the company" so to speak).

Of the new sculptors, TMP's very own "Clibinarium" has to rank at the top; he is responsible for Pendraken's new Late Roman figures, and has a Yahoo group here:

Hard to believe these are his first figures!

There are any number of very good 10mm sculptors working at the moment, however (most of whom are known by company rather than name, unfortunately). Flip through the Links page on 10mmWorld.com to get an idea.

Cheers,

Christopher

For some reason I associate the name Roderick Campbell with 15-20mm WWII figures? Am I confused, or does he do multiple scales?

battlepack200112 Jul 2006 11:04 a.m. PST

I know he's done 25-28 mm and 15 mm. I don;tl see hwy he wouldn't dor 10 mm.

I believe Rod started out at 10mm and is "working his way up".

The bulk of my work has been 15-20mm WWII. Thankfully, I've been able to branch out into some moderns, fantasy and sci-fi.

I started in 10mm and still do some work in that scale. The latest work has been 10mm ancient Germans and Dacians for Perrin/Noble miniatures. And I'm still waiting to see the Zulus I did for Historifigs. I'm not sure if they are in production yet.

If you'd like to discuss a project and get an estimate, please contact me.

As to my favorite 10mm sculptors. The GHQ guys are high on the list for their proportions and crispness. Mark Copplestone is one of the guys who's work has always been an inspiration. I don't think you could go wrong with them doing your minis.

I'm waiting to see your Zulu's too!

CATenWolde12 Jul 2006 2:43 p.m. PST

And I (and 10mmWorld.com) are impatiently awaiting the new Zulus as well! ;)

Aaron, my Google-fu has failed me also, previously, on this matter.

I agree with edinburghowl that being light infantry, the infantry would have no colours.

The dragoons, however, were formed by combining the Philadelphia Light Dragoons, Caledonian Volunteers, and Kinloch's Light Dragoons, and later the Buck's County Light Dragoons were added.
In 1781, they were taken on the British Establsihment as the 5th American Regiiment (British Legion). At this point, I would expect a regulation guidon, per regulations.
Tarleton being a regular, however, I would guess that he had a regulation guidon, based on a regiment with black facings, way before being brought on the establishment. Several companies make flags for the 17th LD, and color in the white with black, or scan one and use Paint Shop or something.

After Yotktown, most of the regiment not captured was absorbed into the King's American Dragoons. Years ago, I saw a National Geographic article on Nova Scotia or New Brunswick which had a surviving guidon for the KAD, blue and of the usual pattern. While not BL, it does suggest a coninuity with Regulations which Loyalist formations would be certain to follow.

From this, my guess is that a perfectly legitimate black pattern Dragoon guidon can be used while being beastly in the Southern Colonies and at losing at Cowpens.

Now, where is YOUR post??

Minimaker12 Jul 2006 3:50 p.m. PST

By the way, I don't know if it's the same Clibinarium, but there is a yahoo list for 10mm figures. You can also ask over there: link And at link There is a sculptor there who has just started questions on 10mm sculpting.

Fifty412 Jul 2006 4:06 p.m. PST

Thank you Minimaker.

As far as 10mm ancients are concerned Steve Barber and Clibinarium rule! I'm not convinced I would buy from any other sculptor considering the disapointment when I received my orders from other manufacturers. The problem is that most of the companies hardly have any picture of the figures on their site which really sucks: You are basicaly obliged to put on "blind" orders and hope.

Copplestone for 10mm fantasy, and GHQ for 10mm ACW.
