I am still looking for a system for my VSF game, and just read a review on The Sword and the Flame which was suggested by some here. The review indicated that The Sword and the Flame was a set of historical rules for the period, but made no mention of sci fi or fantasy elements. Is there a supplement? Or is it being suggested that I make up my own? A little guidance, please. |

I did write up a VSF supplement for TSaTF called "Landships of Mogdonazia", after a Colonial campaign my club ran: link |

TSATF is predicated on 20 figure infantry units, 12 figure cavalry units, and 4 man artillery units. Higher quality units fight better, and regular units get more and bettter command structure. The rules themself make no allowance for sci fi or fantasy units. There are also no supplements, although there is a fantasy version of TSATF in the works, with all the usual bells and whistles. HOWEVER, I had a huge "Orcs Drift" game a few months ago by defining Orc morale as Zulu, goblin as Natal Native Contingent, mounted orc or goblin units as Dervish, Canadain voyageurs as Boers, Sioux as Pathan cavalry, and Canadians as British. I think that there is a group in Jackson Mississippi which has a VSF supplement to TASATF. Stay tuned to this thread
TSATF is one of the best sets of rules ever written, and is adaptable for almost every period. Sometimes your own adaptations are much more fun than any ""official" supplement. There is no "guilt" involved in changing the rules to fit your own prejudices, such as that Dwarfs can wipe the floor with Elves any day. Or vice versa. |

Bigsword, I am a big proponent of Valor, Flesh, and Steel by Bob Charrette. It has excellent rules for landships and aeroscaphs, mechanified horses and steam combat suits, and a wide variety of weapon stats. The actual rule set is based on Brother Against Brother but has a number of tweaks that make the game much more VSF oriented. The background is based on Mars primarily and includes stas for Red and Green Martians and their Cephaloid masters. |

I believe that the Major General uses TSATF for his VSF battles. Look here: zeitcom.com/majgen under the Battles section. There is also a Landships section worth exploring, too. |

I will second Nazrat for Valour and Flesh and Steel. Well worth getting hold of. It has everything you could possibly need for VSF. |

Gaslight will do everything you want and more. I like TSATF but it really isn't as focused on VSF. Gaslight is and if you use Battles by Gaslight the sequence of play allows for quite large games if you want. Thanks, John |
