It's 90% attitude. Cats have BIG attitude reserves. |

Our cat, Buster, would try to kill the thing instead of chasing it away. No kidding. The dang cat really ain't much to look at, not that big, and is lovable enough, but he is a CONSUMATE hunter. I live in a suburban 'hood, so it's not like game is common for him,, but more than a couple times I've had to free up to four animals from his clutches over a weekend stretch. Gophers, rabbits, mice, rats, countless birds, raccoons, opossums (yes, even 'coons and possums fear this black & white terror.) I've seen him jump and pull down low-flying birds at least three times. |

When I read about this this morning at a news aggregator site, the first thing that sprang to mind was Red Dwarf when Lister first runs into the Cat in the hall and the Cat says to himself, "I better make myself look big," and does indeed manage to scare Lister away. |

yeah. my folks had a dog that chased a bear and two cubs up a tree of theirs in montana. not much bigger than that cat. we have a feral cat problem where i live so i see a lot of "cat-titude". they do steer clear of the skunk though

A friend of mine found a very small rabbit at a park and took it home. It took one look at Monique's husband's tree boa, let out a bunny battlecry and tried to attack the snake in its cage. The terrified snake tried to become invisible to the infuriated rabbit. Over the next few weeks everytime Cinnabun would see the snake she'd go into full battle frenzy and the snake would totally panic trying to flee from her. Finally Jerry saw his snake had become a total nervous wreck because of the rabbit, (besides the smell of the snake losing control of all its bodily function was so awful), so he got out of snakes. and found a new home for it. He also took the rabbit's all-out war on snakes as a sign to become a full-time rabbit admirer. To this day Jerry commemorates this unbelievably brave , little, cute and fluffy rabbit with the title of "Killer Bunny," and no I haven't asked her if she's related to the killer rabbit who nearly wiped out King Arthur's knights in the musical "Spamalot." |

We used to have a tabby tom as a kid who would ambush and attempt to kill every dog (or cat) on his turf. Terry Pratchett's "Grebo" kinda reminds me of him. He would fight anything. I sometimes wonder if he attacked passing cars. We used to have a rabbit who would play with our cats by charging at them and head butting them. It was worth it to see the cats look confused! |

what was it "spamalot"? |

I had a pet rat that would charge dogs and win every fight. Stupid dogs would want to sniff him before biting and he would use the oppertunity to bite through their nose. |

Spamalot is the Broadway musical version that is touring the country right now. In New York Tim Curry and Hank Azaria both were in it along with a number of other big stars. It's written by Eric Idle with music by him, and is supposed to be quite good. I'm thinking of goung when it hits Charlotte in a few months

Hi Wild animals, especially preditors and omnivores know that even a minor injury can cause them to starve. This explains why cats can be cautious with agressive mice, or the bear and the cat. Just as with people, every so often mamma nature makes a psychopath. And size doesn't matter much. I had a 24pound striped cat as a kid who may have been part "something". Was a killer. Killed dogs that came round, killed coyotes in the bush. Killed rattlers. Killed all vermin in his house right down to mosquitos
.an was otherwise completely gentle. I have had several of these "stone cold killer" cats of various sized. Usually they are orange cats which I ascribe to the chromatic nature of cats. Orange toms are commonly the ones with the extra male chromosome. Rocky |

Back in December they actually had a New Jersey state-authorized black bear hunt to thin the numbers because they were so protected they were getting out of hand. |

Another true animal story I'm afraid, once in my horse-owning days Syvester the big black and white barn cat went hunting in the nearby Folsom State Park. Unfortunately a coyote promptly began hunting him, so Sylvester fled for his life back to our barn. The sound of cat running for his life brought out Sean, a standard poodle and the barn dog, to investigate the noise. The coyote took one look at Sean and promptly executed an old air force maneuver known as "let's get the heck out of Dodge City, now." For weeks afterwards Sean was very pleased with himself and basked in the compliments from everyone over how the "heroic poodle ran off that awful coyote." I feel very certain when Sean told that story to other dogs, the single coyote grew to a very large large pack. |
