Looking for any sources (pictures, links) for West German uniforms during the early 1980s and whether or not they might have had a camo uniform during this period.

Look over on Panzerbaer.de Look through the first two photo sections for a vehicle that was in service during the 80's and you should find some crewmen in the pictures.

My personal recollection is that they didn't have cammo uniforms in the early 80's but I could be wrong.

No camo for the Bundeswehr in the early 80s, except for helmet covers. The flecktarn uniforms weren't introduced until the 90s. Up 'til then all fatigues were a grayish-green color. I'll look through my list of links and see if I can find any pics for ya.

I should note the helmet covers were unofficial, they were made from "amoeba pattern" zeltbahns. kamouflage.net is the only place I could find with a decent picture of the zeltbahn pattern. It's the last pic of the top row in the West Germany section. In Concord's book on modern panzergrenadiers(1991?) there are pictures of soldiers wearing these covers.

The Germans started experimenting again with camo uniforms in 1976. The Flecktarn pattern was trialed in the 80s, but didn't reach distribution until the early 90s.

They had a Grayish-green color and Tankers had same color coveralls. Inf had winter ponchos white with green splotchs. served 2weeks with our partnership unit in 1981 in Graf. A very diffrent army. we were served in the messhall and ate off real plates. mark

When I was in Germany in 1988 they had a grey/green uniform. I do remember seeing a few officers wearing a camo smock and beret?? But I might have them mixed up with another NATO country. Cause it was sorta a multi brown colored camo??

West germany had a green/grey 'moleskin ' combat uniform for most the 80s. Except border guards they had a parka or combat jacket in 'tan and water' splinter pattern. (there may have been matching trousers but i've never seen a pair) I do own one of these parkas so i can vouch that as being true.

In the late 80 flecktarn is introduced after an experimental period of a 'dot' type flectarn.

Looks like they would be wearing a simple gray-green solid uniform then. I am working on a slightly a-historical project and plan to use a small West German contingient in the game.

Many thanks for all of your help! If anyone does run across a pic of an early uniform, please post the link here!
