Idly browsing the GW website this morning and saw figs and box art for a new WFB box set called "Battle for Skull Pass". Does anyone know anything else about this set? Projected price? Likely to have a new edition of the rulebook? Looks like a fairly decent amount of minis (as long as you like Dwarves and Goblins), could be tempted if the price were right…

maxxon05 May 2006 12:47 a.m. PST

I heard it has skulls in it…

It will have a new rulebook edition (7th), most likely digest-sized like Macragge and Moria boxes.

Price is also supposed to be roughly equal to those two.

In addition to minis, you'll probably get the standard dice & templates and an instant start booklet with scenarios.

They are doing a huge hard cover rule book, but I haven't heard that it will be in the box set.

They're bring back Goblin Spider riders which makes this old Orc & Goblin player crack a smile.

The rulebook in the game is a condensed version much like the Macragge set, plus there will be a seperate hardback rulebook – probably full of extra fluff and the warhammer skirmish rules – same as they did for WH40K.

I reckon about £50.00 GBP for the box set, maybe £60.00 GBP due to the amount of figures in it.

maxxon05 May 2006 4:16 a.m. PST

The current boxset goes for 50 quid doesn't it?

It has a similar amount of figures and junk AND a big (albeit softcover) rulebook.

I thought the whole idea behind the small booklet was to bring down the cost of the starter set.

AndrewGPaul05 May 2006 4:22 a.m. PST

How different is this new set gonna be to the current, v6?

I reckon I'll be sticking with v6, myself.

BugStomper05 May 2006 4:44 a.m. PST

@Andrew Paul – Yeah I'm thinking along the same lines.

The rumors (voiced on earlier TMP threads) is that the box will be very cheap – $45, for example, same as Macragge. I am a little dubious about that, considering what all is being packed into the box.

Supposedly there will be rules tweaks to the new eddition, but no major changes. You are supposed to be able to use your existing army books.

GW is keeping all of the starter sets the same price, so in the U.S it will only be $45. USD Quite a deal since there is about 100 models in the box. The models that require assembly are snap together, but the majority of the core troops are one peice. It looks to be a really nice deal.

nazrat05 May 2006 5:20 a.m. PST

The word is that V7 will be basically the same with minor tweaks. And the box set will be hard to beat at $45!

EagleSixFive05 May 2006 7:11 a.m. PST

That is if you like orcs/gobbos and dwarves that is.

I emailed GW a few days ago and was told there is no set release date or price as of yet and it's planned to be released this fall.

A fair number of links and such on TGN about it

Yes, I heard it was going to be $45 USD in the US too – at that price, a bargain! Even if you only collect one of the armies in it….plus the digest rulebook is going to be very handy for cons, etc. Apparently all existing 6th Ed army books will still be compatible.

There is more than one boxed game that I bought just for the figures, and threw away the rule book.

I was peeved when they dropped my Forest Goblin Spider Riders way back. Now, they are back, and make my old spiders look like little foof-dogs. The way GW prices are now, one might consider $45 USD for 10 Spider riders a normal price. Look at all the rest of the stuff they throw in! 8^)

Like all good honest hard working crack dealers, the first dose is cheap.

jweaver05 May 2006 10:22 a.m. PST

Yup like the look of the spider riders – I'm really looking foward to them. I don't like the looks of some of the other models though – squig on one looks a bit weird, and the dwarves in general didn't do much for me (plus they would encourage me to try to collect yet another army which I won't have time to paint).

I haven't heard much yet on the various rumor threads about any rules changes they may be making, though.

striker805 May 2006 11:20 a.m. PST

I've been hearing the rumor that one of the changes to the rules will be 5 instead of 4 models to make a rank. Other that that I see nothing but good things with the new Fantasy starter.

Frothers Did It Anyway05 May 2006 2:42 p.m. PST

Thanks for the input, fellows. I live in the UK so I think I might be paying more than $45.00 USD – nice how GW milk their home audience the most grin

I've been this</I> close to getting into WH a few times. Got a feeling this box set might be the thing which turns me….

Goddamn italics! See what a late supper of smoked salmon and champagne will do to your typing fingers!
