Looking at it and sorely tempted. Does anyone have any experience with either of these products? |

The 'Shipwreck' rules are for modern naval warfare. They play quick and are pretty easy to play/explain. I would say they are on about the same level of complexity as General Quarters. The rules are d10 based and includes rules to play air, surface, and submarine actions (on a side note, most people either really like the sub rules or don't like them). While Shipwreck includes stats for a lot of weapons, it does not come with much ship information (so you will have find that yourself or download information from the publisher's or Strange Cargo Games websites). There was a supplement, called Freeplay 88, but I not sure how available they are. Overall, I would say these rules are good for players that don't want to get into too many details with modern naval combat. I haven't seen or played the 'In Harm's Way' rules. I'd be interested in hearing anything too. Dave |

Shipwreck is fantastic and they have a Yahoo group if you have a lot of questions. Shipwreck also seemlessly melds with Tankwreck, which is the groundpounding twin for modern. In Harm's Way I am in the dark about. I got them from a guy on Bartertown when he sold me the 1/6000 scale miniatures that came with the rules. He said he wasn't interested after he read them and realized in one attack you could conceivable roll 144 dice. Those are his words, not mine and I have yet to read the rules yet so it could have been an exageration. However, since he only charged me $2 USD for them, I can only assume he wasn't impressed. Just for clarification, In Harm's Way is sold by Strange Cargo, but produced by Figurehead, the producer of the minis. Gregg can correct me if I am wrong. I have played GQ & GQ II and like those. They are also available from Strange Cargo. The make for a good read. I haven't played it yet, but I am kind of partial to Seekrieg 5. I reviewed them on TMP a few days ago, so you could search WWII Naval Review board. I am a huge beginner when it comes to naval gaming of anykind after the ships of sail period. As a beginner I found Seekrieg 5 is not near as complex as you are led to believe and are extremely detailed yet very playable. Just check them out and see what you think. Hope this helped

Freeplay 88 is still very available both from the publisher (me) or Strange Cargo games. Martin B |
