Does anyone out there play peter pigs rules Squarebashing? What do you think of it? And does anyone have house rules they can share with our group? thanks!

I used to play a lot of SB, not so much any more as not many people in my regular gaming group like it. The main thing to watch out for in the rules is to make sure that in the event of a square suffering three morale failures you also apply the result of suffering two, otherwise you are better off with three failures rather than two. I usually let the defender attempt to bring on any units destroyed in the setup phase as reinforcements starting turn four (enter on a 6 per unit). Offsets the slight bias to the attacker IMHO and means more of your lovingly painted figures are likely to appear on the table! Nigel Clarke has a v. good SB site: link Cheers Martin |

Use hexes instead of squares. As I have a lot of Geohex, it make things simpler. |

Does it not change the game? Isn't there then six fire sources/move options rather than four? |

Well, I like 'em. A comprehensive site for Square Bashing is at: link Not too much there in the way of "house rules", but a load of good information. A variant for the Spanish Civil War is at: link A WWII variant is at: link A hex variant sounds interesting… |

Well, you can say that you have to face against the flats (with the grain). makes maneuver a little easier. |

Square Bashing gives the player more of an operational experience than a tactical one - think more along the lines of "where shall I put my reserves?" or ""Which flank to concentrate on" instead of "Platoon to skirmish forward". The supplement "Storm of Steel" is also worth getting. Although the rules are published by Peter Pig, who make 15mm figures, I use 6mm and half the dimensions. |

If you are looking for a tactical free ruleset then I recommend "Trench Storm". You can download the rules and my quick reference charts from my webpage files section at: geocities.com/terry1813 These rules are based on a 1 figure = 10 men system. It moves very well and is easy to learn. These rules were not written by me. I do have permission to have them on my site from the author. Please do take note though the quick refererence charts that I have available were created by me. They are slightly different than the rule set. My group has modified the rules and these charts are all that we need to play the game. |

Thanks to Martin Rapier and aecurtis for their recommendation of my SB site. What sort of house rules are you seeking? SB is more of a divisional level game and is usually compared in scope to GWSH rather than the lower level Trenchstorm rules btw. Nigel |
