"As this is our first miniatures game, we aren't holding anything back. The figures will be in 36mm scale" Hmmm first miniature game and they pick 36mm scale. What a bunch of #$@#. |

Oh look – an Ultra Ultra Rare Mitch Hunter, Woo Hoo. To bad it took a hundred boosters and 45 crap Trenchers to get it. No thanks, It's collectable, it's the wrong scale
Looks like my Capitol Troops are going to be gearing up for Two Hour Wargames – 5150 game instead. Cheers Junk Runner |

I just don't like CMG, its not that I am into warzone since TG demise but launching it in CMG almost kills any chance that I would pick a few miniatures that I liked the original design and were resulted in a descent level. |

Well, looks like I'll be the guy twitching in the back of your local game store, "Hey, kid, wanna play some Warzone? No, real Warzone with miniatures made out of metal. C'mon kid y'know you want to." I also wish them luck in this endeavor but I'll be thrice cursed before I drop a nickel on repurchasing anything related to Warzone from here on out. |

Gah, an out-scale CMG? Those aren't nails in the coffin, they're rivets! Oh well, the last of my Warzone books are on ebay right now, so maybe I'll be rid of them before the news spreads

There's no way they can conceivably do this right, for me, because I'm flat out not interested in pre-painted, collectible miniatures. I don't care how well done they are, etc- they're useless to me. I like conversions. I like my own color schemes. I like multiple poses for rank and file troops. I like figures with personality. I like individuality. Hence, I don't like CMGs. Ah well- it's not like the real Mutant Chronicles and Warzone figs'll cease to exist when Abortion: The Game gets released, so, yeah. - Grumpy Monk |

from the press release: "As this is our first miniatures game, we aren’t holding anything back. The figures will be in 36mm scale, with the most detailed sculpts and painting we can give them." I think they mean "the best detail and painting the lowest chinese bidder can give us." |

I wonder what is going to happen to all those molds. |

I suppose the best we can hope for is that FFG realizes there is a greater demand for the older system and decides to put out a spinoff large scale battle game system (very similar to Ultimate Warzone, just with a different name) and rereleases the pewter models. I can't see this FFG Mutant Chronicles being anything bigger than a warband skirmish type game. It'll probably be more like Star Wars miniatures if anything. Regardless of how good it may be, it won't be a substitute for Warzone. Could you imagine trying to build a squad of 4-10 Imperial Trenchers with a Sergeant and 1-2 Heavy Weapons Specialists out of a randomly packed system???? Worse yet, try to build a 2000-3000 point Warzone army that way. I don't think it would happen. I think someone could easily rationalize that buying GW minis for Warzone proxies would be more economical than buying caseloads of prepainted randomly sorted Mutant Chronicles Expansion Packs to build an army. |

Warzone R.I.P. I give the CMG 6 months at the absolute most until all the boxes are in bargain bins. There's no way the movie will be big enough to drive sales. Oh well, all my WZ is in storage
maybe some die hards will take it off me on ebay. |

The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to wonder if maybe the best of all possible solutions wouldn't be for this idea to just die in the womb, and Mutant Chronicles be allowed to fade away with some semblance of dignity. - Monk |

>> I give the CMG 6 months at the absolute most until all the boxes are in bargain bins. I think everyone is underestimating the popularity of CMGs and also forgetting that this game will be tied in with a movie that is being produced. While the majority of the people here might think poorly of CMGs the fact is that they sell like crazy and I think that FFG will do quite well with the game as long as they make it interesting to play. >> Worse yet, try to build a 2000-3000 point Warzone army that way. That isn't really what CMGs are about though. The games are about options and trying out different synergistic combinations of units. |

To be fair there isn't much interest in WarZone. Saying FFG is ruining WarZone isn't fair to Target or Excelsior. The only people who would paint WarZone figures are people already invested in the game and universe. Those people already have figures. Might as well go for those that don't paint their figures because they'll be open to the idea. There's a lot of people out there that like 40k but don't want to paint any figures. This might be just the thing for them. |

I can't say a CMG ruins warzone, but it is not what the majority of the people waiting for its rebirth expected, also I do hate the idea of CMG but that's just me. I hope the new owner best of luck. |

Wow, 36mm CMG, hummm
. They found the fastest way for me to put my wallet back in my pocket. Now a 15mm CMG, might get me

ANOTHER CMG??? What a freakin' waste. The shops around here are full of CMGs being clearanced, so let's add another one to the bins. I'm no Warzone fan, but everytime I see this (CBT/Mechwarrior clicky comes to mind), it begs the question, how does this help expand the fan base of a game or its universe? It doesn't, as it alienates the previous fans by discarding the usefulness of their current collections, requiring them to start over completely if they want to be included. |

I have been interested in Warzone for awhile. I almost bought into a couple of times but always changed my mind. Mainly because I didn't want to invest the time and energy into painting when there weren't many people involved and they only played like once a month or every other month. This CMG might just might be what I am looking for. |

I think all of you who keep whining about 36mm need to get out a ruler and measure your minis. Most heroic scale minis ALREADY ARE around 36mm. Two important considerations here: Saying FFG have the licence to Mutant Chronicles seems to imply more of a "Siege of the Citadel" setting (anyone ever play the old Pressman boardgame?), which is a skirmish/dungeoncrawly game set in the WZ universe (though, technically it's vice-versa). The game would involve hero-heavy stikeforces, with few if any gropos, I would imagine. Like CMG's or not, this setting is well suited to this medium. Secondly, and following that same line of reasoning, this doesn't necessarily imply that MC would supplant WZ, any more that Necromunda would supplant 40K. Of course, that STILL leaves WZ (and Chronopia, for that matter), out in the cold, but I don't see this meaning it's any deader a property. I doubt if ANYBODY wants WZ back more than I do! All just conjecture, of course. ~Mike |

I'm beginning to see a pattern now with "scale creep": Each company is making their minis in a different scale so as not to be (closely) compatible with other companies' minis. 36mm is just odd enough a scale, 40mm was mentioned elsewhere on TMP (in reference to another game), there is LOTR, SST, etc. I guess those of us that still have true 25mm and 28mm minis are going to be looked at strangely by gamers 5 or 10 years from now as being "retro" (or worse!) ;) As to the Warzone CMG, it's a bit too early (for me at least) to pass any judgement on it, what with the information currently available. Wait and see, wait and see
. ;) |
| Mike Zebrowski | 14 Mar 2006 9:53 p.m. PST |
36mm is roughly O scale in model railroading. TMP lists O scale to be equivelent to 37mm, but it really depends on how you measure it. So while it is a weird scale for wargames, it isn't an unheard of scale. Mike Z |

Okay, a possibly clear thought courtesy of The Beast Rabban, has occurred to me, and perhaps we are a bit hastily jumping to conclusions. The FFG release talks about the release of "The Mutant Chronicles CMG" which is NOT WarZone. WarZone was a skirmish battles system that took place in the Mutant Chronicles universe. The Mutant Chronicles was also originally just a boardgame set in the universe of the same name. Therefore, hopefully, this does not necessarily mean that WarZone, as the entity we've come to know and love, is gone. Quite possibly FFG is simply making a CMG version of the original boardgame. |

Geez, I should have checked the FFG forums before I sent my previous post
Anyways, this was posted there in recently: ———————————————————————————— QUESTION: Besides collectability and rules, how does this differ in comparison to the Warzone miniatures game by Excelsior Games? Is it just supose to be a simpler version of the game? ———————————————————————————— ANSWER: Warzone is a completely different game. MC:CMG and Warzone only share the same fictional background. So
the question now is "who got his hands on Wz figure molds ?". I know Ral Partha is now delivering figures from the second batch, wich means a lot of previous molds – as well as the few new Excelsior did – are now lost in warp. There were quiet cool figures within those. For the question of crap random plastic 36mm stuff
I ain't interessed at all. Sic
I've been expecting that re-re-release so long ! |
