Howdy,

I am looking at getting into 15mm WWII, I am buying Crossfire and Flames of War rulesets (for an introduction).

I am finding it hard to locate 15mm suppliers that are in or ship to Australia (without the the ridiculous 40% postage or similar). I am also trying to resist just jumping on the Battlefront bandwagon (since by all accounts they are getting bigger than 15mm – although some of their books maybe handy as starting points for research since I have nothing).

So currently I know of Battlefront, Eureka (for Italians/Aussies) and Olympian games for QRF figures.

Any recommendations (for or against) or hints for a newbie getting started gratefully received.

Depends where you are for walk-in shopping. In Melbourne Mind Games in Swanston St. has the whole FOW range. MilSims might even have something now(www.milsims.com.au) & they're mail order is reasonable.

Tin Soldier in Sydney seems to have everything but I haven't seen it for a couple of years now. Napoleons, too, if it is still there.

Napoleons in Brissy should have something, the Melbourne store used to have Old Glory & Command Decision minis.

The Tin Soldier in Sydney and Essex Miniatures in Melbourne do Old Glory, plus Essex have the Essex WWII range. Both companies are post free in Australia. Don't write off Battlefront, they are quality and easy to get from nearly every hobby store in Australia.

Thanks (I'm in Adelaide – so MilSims is a regular mail order it's my rulesets are coming from) not writing off Battlefront, I guess after being on the GW treadmill I'm just trying not to rush straight into Battlefront (since fairly or unfairly it compared to GW a bit), but if it's what we got then it's what I'll get :)

Hi Ozzie:

I retail the Resistant Roosters range of 15mm figures. I regularly ship to Australia. The most cost-effective method is generally the Global Priority flat-rate envelope. I could probably ship 4-6 platoons in a small envelope for $5.25 USD or up to a dozen for $9.50 USD

And all this March international customers receive a 33% discount on P&P.

Yuo could try contacting Dean at Olympian and asking if he is supplying any stores nearer to you with QRF.

You can certainly order our figures via Military Hobbies in Adelaide and I believe they carry a lot of Battlefront too.

Military Hobbies (Port Road) is your only option locally. They have a reasonable range of Battlefront figures although whats there depends upon when the last shipment arrived. Grab a pack or two & make your own mind up about size etc – I mix them quite happily with other suppliers. They have had QRF in the past but not much last time I was there. There are odds & sods from other suppliers too. Andrew can order stuff for you directly easily enough. Remember you will be paying GST on these which partially offsets postage costs.

For WWII I've also used mail order from Nic Robson & Dean (Olympian) & both give excellent service. I also regularly get stuff from overseas – Battlefront itself, also directly from QRF, Peter Pig, & Mark (Extra Crispy/Scalecreep – stop tempting me Mark!). I've had great service from all & will happily use them again. Postage is often actually at cost although nominally about 30%. Postal turn around from overseas is generally under 2 weeks from ordering (done on-line or faxed).

Skytrex sometimes do deals on shipping, & it can be worth checking their website from time to time to see if they are running one of these. I grab stuff from them from time to time as they do some things that other manufacturers haven't in the past.

Nic from Eureka Miniatures has a lot of 15mm WWII as well.

Thanks again, once I get my rulebooks and have a better idea of my two starting armies… (er companies… or would that be battalions? Wow I got a lot to learn) I think some phonecalls maybe in order as these websites do not always seem to exactly reflect the comments/stock made here.

But I am certainly encouraged that Military Hobbies stocks a range (so I can at least sight some minis before deciding) and that there a few lower postage sites out there too… time to start down the slippery historical slope :)

If you need aircraft for your games, the Armaments In Miniature line from SCHMID (see Manufactures for link) is a great start. Postage to Australia depends on the weight and not on some standard of 40% of cost. There is a basic air mail cost and if you order only one item the cost of postage versus cost of item is high, but as you order more items cost of postage versus cost of items reduces very quickly.

I should add Timecast, Magister Militurm & Caliver Books to the list of those I've used who reliably ship to Oz – although not necessarily for WWII of course.

I've now got the rulebooks, I'm looking forward to trying Crossfire, and I expect I'll play FOW to get some armour on the table as well, so now I'm onto shopping and deciding on exactly which intial forces & basing (have read other threads so am thinking either FOW or just 30-35mm squares)

MathewatWarTimeMiniatures18 Apr 2006 9:31 p.m. PST

If you are after some alternatives to the BattleFront range BattleScape.com.au has just received their range of BattleHonors 15mm WWII. Early War, mid War and Late War Vehicles all available from Char B through to Jagd Tiger.

MathewatWarTimeMiniatures08 May 2006 5:34 a.m. PST

Resistant Roosters range of finely cast 15mm WWII just arrived today. Finnish, Late war German Paratroops, Russian Naval Inf, Herman Goering Panzer grenadiers all covered.

regards

BattleScape is currently running a special on the 15mm WWII. The vehicles are down to around $11.20 USD (These are good quality all metal cast with fine detail) each and the Resistant Roosters range of Infantry also reduced. As one purchaser recently stated:

"The miniatures are absolutely brilliant – far exceeding my expectataions. Quite frankly – the quality of the Resistant Roosters minis make the FOW product seem amatuerish by comparison."

If you are after true to scale 15mm the Old Glory range of infantry meets that.

I can email the full Old Glory Catalogue to those interested, this includes any retailers wishing to stock the lines in their store. email:

MILITARY HOBBIES on Port Road, Hindmarsh, have a very good range of QRF now and more on the way. Expect Japanese by next week, as well as other items. They already have a very full range of Hungarians and French 1940, besides Germans, British etc.
