In the two US/Iraqi Gulf Wars, what type of uniform would most Iraqi Republican Guard troops be (OD, Camo or Khaki) in? Also, would thier armor be green, camo or sand colored? I am looking to paint up some 12mm RG units (either from al-Medina, Nebuchadnezzar or Hammurabi Divisions) and not certain what these guys should look like. Thanks!

In the 1991 war, one division (Hammurabi, I think; the 5th?) was largely outfitted in "surplus" British army desert camo uniforms, which explained why large elements of our forces had to wear DPM until more could be produced…. Could add some potential confusion to your games…. ;-)

Dom.

PS – Not sure on armour, but most of what I've seen has been sand coloured.

Reprimo's video is pretty spot on. Dark green uniforms and sand colored helmets. Armor was light sand colored, at least the tanks and BMPs I saw.

Been a while since you asked the question, but from my understanding, by 1991 most Republican Guard Units where issued one of a multitude of camouflage uniforms. By 2003, due to sanctions and the wear and tear of those they had, most Iraqi units where issued a locally made green or tan uniform. I saw warehouses full of these and have a sample of both the green and tan shirts, as well as a brand new out of the packet green uniform. Tanks and APCs were usually painted with a sand color which wears off quite quickly revealing the original Soviet green underneath. Hope to see pics of your stuff. Working on some more myself.
