I am new to modern wargaming. WHat would be some good scenarios/country matchups? Also, I don't mean to sound ignorant but are the Gurkhas still around? I want them to fight someone. Thanks in Advance.

Gurkhas still exist. They are native to Nepal, and IIRC, are currently fighting Maoist insurgents in their homeland.

Mike OBrien28 Mar 2003 5:08 p.m. PST

As a unit they were in the Falkland/Malvinas Campaign. They can be used. If nothing else you can use them in hypothetical games...The Brits in Malaysia again, The Coalition in Syria/Saudi Arabia/Iran or France. Whatever ideas that interest you. The nice thing about Moderns is that you can try different possibilities against real world opposition. Okay, calling the French opposition may be a bit much...how about targets?

What rule set are you going to use?

Los Hooligans28 Mar 2003 5:20 p.m. PST

I obtained a copy of FFT2 from a garage sale. It seems like a good solid set. But the downside is that it is very armor oriented...I I want more of an infantry game too.

Yes! Gurkhas against France... I'm gon' blow me up a mess a' AMX-10RCs

I'm not pitching any products but download the demo set of Dogs of War rules from Devil Dog.

I and a few friends have had a few games with them and we enjoyed ourselves universally. Scale is 1:1 infantry skirmish with a few fireteams per side.

Not sure if the vehicle rules are out yet though. I'm itching to try out my humvee, T-80 and Brdm's.

wicked man...What do you guys think the best set of modern armour rules are?

GeoffQRF30 Mar 2003 2:06 a.m. PST

Los Hooligans: Although FFT are written from an armour point of view, we have played some very good games based on the Korean War with huge numbers of infantry stands - it still works very well

Thanks Geoff. I was doing some sample rolls with my army men and you're right it does seem to work.

If you watch your TV, you can see that the US favorite targets are actually Brits.
When you have such allies, you don't need ennemies.
