Would a regular Komodo Dragon for a larger scale do for one of these? If so, any recommendations?

I forgot to mention that there are some who say that it is still around:

I'd say a plastic toy of a Komodo or Monitor should do the trick.

I'll go for there being a dinosaur still alive in the Outback if you'll go for undiscovered deep-sea Megalodons ;)

And just to attempt to remain on topic, I see no reason why a larger scale komodo dragon toy couldn't work for one of these in your campaign, especially since they were related.

If Mammoths were reduced to pygmies due to isolation, is there a chance that the well-known Komodo would (eventually) be even bigger if allowed to roam and breed freely in a vast jungle setting?

That would be scary!
