One of my "projects" that I am starting to outline is building a basic/playable Tramp Steamer for my 15mm figs based on the old WWII Liberty Ship patterns. I was going to go ahead and use the pink insulation foam to build up the hull, decks, etc..but was wondering how I could make the sides look like smooth metal of the hull? Any suggestions? Also
does anyone know of a place that sells 15mm scale ship parts?

Try Blue Jacket: link They are a modelers' supply site, and you have to purchase from them based on the actual size of the part. That is how I got my carronades. If you email them with your scale request, though, they cam probably help you. They also have a truly awe inspiring model of a Liberty ship. |

HR Products has a lot to offer, and it's listed by scale. hrprod.com |

Doesn't Reviersco have a 'paper' kit of a tramp steamer with accessories, etc???? Lt DWW |

If you're doing Between the Wars pulp stuff, see if you can find the plans for one of the WW1 mass-produced frieghters – Liberty ships are rather large for the job. |

The Reviresco tramp is really nice, and comes with fittings. |

Reviresco has the paper ship in the right scale (not a Liberty ship, however) and I think you can buy the metal and resin fittings seperately. However, James has made the ship in such a way that it sturdy enough to handle playing. As an alternative, a friend of mine took the 1/72 "Flower-Class" corvette model by Airfix(?) and made it into a tramp steamer. Wyatt |

Hull sides? Use plasticard. I have made a couple of gunboats and small tramps using a basic build up of balsa/foam core for the hull in 28mm. I then sheet the hull sides using thin plastic card. To affix to the hull former I use liberal amounts of glue and shirt pins to hold the plastic card. For 28mm this is nice, as I can leave them in place and they look like the hull plate rivets. |

I made my steamship with foamcore decks and posterboard hull. Got all the basic structure done, and then dropped the project (I wanted something for 28mm Moderns/Gangsters but also for 54mm scuba divers
I ended up with something that didn't really fit either). It was based on a 3-island freighter like the Reviresco steamer. |
