Hi, does anyone have any sources of cheap 28mm-compatible trains, or downloadable pdf models? I'm going to order the Whitewash City set with the station buildings & track, so it would be nice to have a train to hold up. Norberto |

Head over to Toys R Us and look in the train section. There are a few there that are 0 or S ish scale that will work nicely. Cheap too. |

I got one earlier this month from TRU for $10 USD (actually 2 as I gave one to my son for his Mexican Revolution games). These are a littlel garish but can be modified and repainted for various game options. Here is one I did last year for 1965 Congo link original link |

Norberto, I second the Dollar Tree recommendation. I picked up a bunch to convert to my Sudan game. I am using "true" 25mm figures, and they look fine next to them. If you want them for the look and are not too concerned about exact scale, this may be th eway to go. |

Picked up several at toy stores and drug stores. |

Keep a look out for the Bachman train sets on post-Xmas special – the HO ones are a little small for skirmish games where the figures may be on or in the train, but make great scenery, and the On30 stuff is terrific for 28mm where the action in in the train. Unfortunately in my part of Oz we are unlikely to see any on real markdowns. |

Try the "Cut an Assemble an Old Fashioned Train" from Dover Books. link It's close to 28mm. |

Look in the discount stores. I have picked up two to convert, since I wanted a larger engine for Mexico and a smaller engine I could use for Africa/Colonial. |

I can't seem to google a web store selling the Western Express- any ideas guys? Many thanks, VLG |

I got two trains on E-bay both from a company called Fast Lane. One was called Western Express and the other was the Patriot Express. |

Thanks for all the replies! Sadly I don't live in the USA, so I can't get to a Dollar tree & the UK versions of TRU are not very good for the sort of toys we use :-( The Vulture Gulch train looks like it has definite possibilities, as does the Dover "cut & assemble" booklet. I'll have a look for suitable auctions on ebay, but these two are the ones I'm going for at present. $9.00 USD -$12.00 is right inside my budget too! Thanks aain, Norberto |

Noberto: Discount stores really are the best source for cheap toy trains. I bought one and will be converting (painting, mostly) it later this year. I also bought an old, nonworking O-Scale model train on ebay a while back. It needs a little conversion work, but it only cost me $25. USD This is also a good bet for you. I'm not a big fan of the Vulture Gulch train, actually. I think it's really overpriced for what you get. |

I just picked a one of the above trains on ebay. Only it was called a Goldlok, instead of Fast Lane. I don't know if that helps any one

I'll have a look for O gauge "non-runners". I've heard of the Goldlok brand as well, but never seen any in the UK. O gauge would be nice, as the track etc is readily available too, which would make things a lot easier for me. Thanks everyone for all the help. Norberto |

Anyone in the U.K. come across any of the "Goldlok" trains or were they just distributed in the U.S. ? I've noticed a couple of them going on eBay but only from the U.S. I've emailed Goldlok in Hong Kong for info but have received no reply. Having trawled most (if not all) of my local shops and markets where I thought I might pick up something useable – and haven't come across ANY Western trains of ANY size – I'm begining to think I might have to fork out the shipping costs and get a Goldlok from the U.S. Simon |

The Goldlok train is now sold under the name Western Express by Fast Lane toys. You can usually pick one up on E-Bay for $10.00 USD The set to keep an eye out for is the "Patriot Express" by Fast Lane. Same train but it has a military paint scheme and two additional flat cars. Perfect for sandbagging and putting a Maxim gun on. |

I'm a newbie and want to say hello to everybody. This is not a cheap, but a very very nice train in 25mm scale, the train fits on an O scale guage track. link |
Festus Haggen | 13 Feb 2006 5:35 p.m. PST |
@bsrlee The On30 trains, do they fit on an O scale guage track, ore do they need special rail sections? |
Col Stone | 03 Oct 2006 4:25 p.m. PST |
Is there anywhere in europe (UK or sweden prefered) where one might find these trains, (Goldlok fastlane, western or patriot express) i was browsing ebay but the shipping to europe is insane.. |
hockler | 03 Oct 2006 6:35 p.m. PST |

..On30 are O Scale trains designed to run on HO track. HO track scales out in O or 1/48 Scale as roughly 30 inches between the rails. You do not want full size O Gauge trains. THey would be huge with 28mm figures. The On30 stuff is narrow gauge and narrow gauge trains were scaled down from the big boys. "Favorite Spot" on eBay sells all the Bachmann stuff at discounts if you bid carefully. You can get engines for half price or less. Cheers
