Based on some emails I've received, I'm considering adding an "open" competition to Last Painter Standing 2. As you'll recall, in the LPS2, the Finalists will be provided with minis and a theme each round, and will submit their write-ups on how they painted their figures. In the side competition, we could allow anyone to submit a photo and a brief description of a 'mech they painted during that round to the current theme, with the pics posted at TMP. In honor of the contest sponsor, we would limit this to BattleTech 'mechs. Optionally, open participants could allow their entries to be rated by TMP readers (1 to 10 scale). If someone drops out of the LPS, we could replace them with the highest-scoring entry from the open competition. Thoughts? (I'm not sure about the "replacement" idea – would it make it easier for Finalists to drop out, knowing they'd be replaced? Would it be "fair" to let someone else jump into the contest? Although it might be fun

The side compo is a great idea, but I'd say limit the competition proper to the LPS entrants. There can be side voting for the open participants, but that would be for kudos or glory or some other non-tangible thing. Great idea to have an open side competition! |

Gee Bill, There's so many contestants and pieces to look at now that I'm not sure I'd pay attention to any extras. The next round will have probably more than 30 left. I'd rather wait until the next contest, but don't let my short attention span stop anybody. |

Why not? Heck, it'd give me an excuse to buy some CAV stuff and I'm always a horrible attenshun hoor for showing off my amateur work with a brush. Just a showcasing with no pending on the LPS would be fine. The more involvement in the hobby in any shape, form, or fashion the better. |

Will this include a process for side bets, as well? |

Suppose I should have read rather than skimmed. Battletech it is. I'd say lay down an official announcement and see who bites on their own dime as it were. |
