The 9th Pennsylvania Continental Regiment, organised in spring 1777 from volunteers across Pennsylvania, is remembered for its discipline and resilience.

The regiment would be engaged and decimated in a fifty minute muzzle to muzzle combat with British Light Infantry and other elites in the fight for Birmingham Hill at the Battle of Brandywine on September 11th 1777, leading to it and the 3rd Pennsylvania Brigade's selection by Washington to lead in the attack at the Battle of Germantown the following month.
