Two Saturdays ago I played a black powder era game with chevaux de frise, and decided I have to have some of those. I took a look around for tutorials, and found nothing that looked easy enough.

I'm looking for ideas that don't involve drilling. I love terrain crafting projects, but I want multiple linear feet of these things, and if I tried to drill a dozen holes in each 30mm or 40mm cheval de frise center beam, I might wake up weeks later wearing a straight jacket in a padded cell.

Suggestions welcome. Bonus points for photos of your own work.

PS: It occured to me that 1/72 chevaux de frise would probably not be too far off scale with 15mm miniatures, but I can't find any 1/72 plastic terrain sets with more than 2 of them. I don't want to buy a crate of 1/72 fortification sets just to get a half dozen linear feet of something that could be made with toothpicks.
