A suspected pneumonic plague infection in Siberia has prompted strict quarantine measures after a 28-year-old laboratory worker, Daria Shipilova, died of the illness. Nearly 200 people are under medical observation, though officials state no contacts have tested positive.

She was later hospitalized and died, it was reported, although Russia's authorities have not confirmed that the plague was the cause of death.

A sensational story pulled out of thin air.
