A couple of gamers are going to try and complete the old boardgame 'Campaign for North Africa' but think it may take 20 years…

Brave. I knew of two guys in college who set out to play "Drang Noch Oste" one semester. By Christmas holidays one had flunked out of school and the other was on scholastic probation.

That I can understand 😊.

Some mates and I used to spend weekends playing Air War.
Usually all weekend to make 1 move.

And I thought that games like SPI's Global War took a long time! I hope somebody gives each of them a dice jail (gaol)early on as a distraction for times where their dice misbehave.

Without taking anything away from the bold folly of the endeavour, they at least have one advantage over those originally faced with the game on release – they have made spreadsheets for all the paperwork. That should speed play up a bit.

I wonder if they'll get to the end and the loser will ask for a rematch 😁

My first thought was "they won't live that long." But they look reasonably young and healthy for 21st Century SPI players. I'd say they have a decent chance of one go-round, but about zero of "best two out of three."

We still play Air War from time to time. More like 15 minutes a turn. You do need to agree which errata and revisions you are using first though….

All it takes is some dedication. We played once a week for 44 weeks a year and completed 'fire in the East' with 'scorched earth' more than once. Four players and timed moves. By the way, one of the fellows figured out it was broken by a careful study of math and reinforcements. We still played it out to see if he was right.
Great times, but it was nuts. :)

Well that certainly prepared them for it. Both games are so similar.

Naturally, it was a huge McGuffin on an episode of The Big Bang Theory. 😄
