I'm envisioning something like the 1920's. Before the rise of the Nationaists and CCP |

I would expect to see a free Tibet and an Indian occupation of contested territories. I agree with Saber6, I would also expect a return of a "warlord" society, however, I would think that the warlords would be linked to criminal gangs. I don't know if Taiwan would use the situation to attempt to regain the mainland, they probably would not want it back at that point. If Russia hasn't collapsed, I would expect to see a Russian grab for more territory, isn't there still a Russian claim to Chinese territory? Independence of predominantly Moslem arrears, Vietnam taking territory? Sea claims settled. In short, a free for all, until some group gains unilateral control over the nukes and threatens to pop on off. Completely off the wall, our pudgy little Korean friend or his sister making a play for China or at least Manchuria? He has a large army that has not done much except bleed as of late and he would likely assume that the US would be too busy to do anything about a quick land grab. |

A real possibility and good advice to have contingency plans ready so we don't fail the peace like we did with Russia. After the USSR imploded, senior people in the Bush '41 admin were openly discussing a type of "Marshall Plan" to help the former Soviet republics transition to more democratic political structures and free market economies. When Clinton won, that wasn't on his radar and he gave Russia policy to Al Gore who fumbled it badly. We need to try to avoid a repeat of that. |
