But it'll be great for a sniper's nest – and that's in the plan as well. And of course a drone launching facility. And a central attraction for tourists. |

Remember that the original layout of the capital included roads too wide to barricade. |

I did not know that – thanks! (It actually says in the attic though, but they must have had access somehow.) |

He said the ballroom was also going to have security/military purposes. We know what that is, an updated White House command bunker. IIRC the White House has been using the one built during WW2. |

No the original WW2 bunker was upgraded during the Obama administration according to this report. link Existing is already 60 feet deep and can withstand a nuclear blast.

From wikipedia. Post-September 11 facility In August 2026, The Washington Post reported that a second presidential emergency facility was constructed under the White House between the September 11 attacks and the end of the presidency of Barack Obama. Citing two former federal officials, the Post characterized the structure as a "bunker" mined into the bedrock 60 feet (18 m) below the White House. According to the officials, it was designed as a secure continuity of government command center that can accommodate dozens of individuals for weeks if necessary, during and after attacks by weapons of mass destruction. The existence of the facility was highly classified and reportedly not even disclosed to legislators or most senior executive branch officials.[11][12] Leon Panetta, who served as director of the Central Intelligence Agency and secretary of defense under Barack Obama, confirmed the existence of this newer structure when asked about it on MSNOW.[13] This reporting follows similar claims by Ronald Kessler in his 2018 book Changing the Rules of the Game: Inside the Trump White House, and also in later interviews.[14] Kessler suggested that this second bunker was constructed north of the West Wing in a project known as the White House Big Dig. Other analysts have argued that the North Lawn excavation was not deep enough to match Kessler's description. Instead, they argue that the deeper bunker was tunneled from a site in East Potomac Park, citing other unexplained construction projects around the White House.[15] As of September 2026, the East Wing renovation project continues ahead of schedule after a favorable Supreme Court 5-4 ruling.[16] |

For all of you who complain about AI posts and other posts that…. what's that line you all throw out constantly? 🤔 "Don't paint or play miniatures" Nor A post that HAS anything to do with miniatures, history or even ultramodern warfare. Basically was just another post for a group "bash" excuse. Where are those complaints? 😏 Will this even get built? Who knows. Actually don't care one way or another. Look up your history about presidents who had buildings erected for both structural and military purposes. As far as arches? Aren't there at least four or five Western European capitals that include an arch somewhere in their city? I know, but this is …….. 😫 |

Although my comment was deleted, I do think it is a legitimate topic here to comment on Trump's performance as CinC, including subcommanders like Hegseth, and use of national security rationales for various sideline projects. The arch would considerably block the view from the Lincoln Memorial to Arlington. As a military priority, it is not necessary. Beyond that there are other critical issues. It's time to stop dismissing his public military threats as hyperbole. His choice of words and tone with Iran lack the quiet but unmistakable intent of TR's walk softly, carry a big stick which is arguably more effective than telling people you will send them to hell, like the world has never seen, etc. It may be a different approach than past C-in- C s have used but it sounds hollow and doesn't work. His apparent lack of expertise on CV catapults and "magnets" could cost millions. This is a legitimate modern warfare issue. Turning back to old technologies like this and the debatable battleship concept, diverting critical military raw materials from the things we actually need. |

Tort, it does not distract from the fact that this post has nothing to do with ultramodern warfare, history, miniatures or painting them. The arch itself is all talk right now. Some comments about "potential" usage for military purposes, is the leeway to post something that is nothing but another "bash" post. The current media "du jour outrage". "The usual suspects" make their comments. There are many things I would love to post and use the cover of "history" to fit the TMP rules, articles that would show our liberties, constitution and rights, either being taken away, or proposed to be taken away by < politician or potentially future politicians>. One recently by your own governor. I guarantee if I did, the outrage would be immediate, the post deleted and I'd be in the doghouse again. IMHO this whole post should be deleted. |

I think the arch is more than talk. Excavation was scheduled to begin this month until Reagan Airport and the military weighed in, putting it on hold for now. In my last post I took it at face value, but yes I am raising issues about Trump's credentials and abilities as a military commander in chief. And you are right, that does not belong here. |

Agree with Tort, completely unneeded and a vanity project that the taxpayer will pay for. Wasn't this administration supposed to stop wasteful spending? |
