Greeting fellow gamers,
We are in the midst of a very busy 2 month period for gamers and history buffs. Last weekend we wrapped up the Military History Fest, in Lockport. We were there, and signed up 40 new members for our newsletter (welcome) and spread the word about our hobby. Amidst the backdrop of 400 reenactors, canons, vehicle and battles, there were a variety of vendors, plenty of food options, veteran support groups and period bands. If you have not been there before, this should be a must see for 2027.
Coming up soon, the Chicago Toy Soldier Show, a great event for an opportunity to pick up or just recall some fond memories of toy soldiers from our past. You know, before we grew up and became serious about our pastime. Next is Cantigny's "Date with History" lecture series. This month's topic is: Irregular Warfare in the American Revolution. Of course the main event in this time frame is Autumn Wars/War Chest (details below). Then is the Historical Miniatures Night at Grognard Games, Roselle, IL. Here is a chance to play with some of our premier HMGS GMs at a great game store. The following weekend is our Military History Book Sale, a unique chance to pick up some valued volumes and socialize in a salon type atmosphere. (Ok, it is outside with a fire pit, food, and football on the tv, but you get the idea) Up in Madison, will be the storied Gamehole Convention, and event HMGS has supported for years, and this time our GMs will be putting 28 miniature events. A great excuse to go up and see the con. While you are there, be sure to stop at the legendary Noble Knight brick and mortar store. Noble Knight has been a loyal sponsor of ours for years-Thank you. At the end of the month is the Military Modeling Society of Illinois show. For the past couple of years they have had a miniature gaming model category. I am torn between submitting my 7th Armoured, A-13 Cruiser Squadron (complete with Caunter camo) or my Panther Nachtjaeger Platoon. Perhaps I will do both. The comes November and Rock-Con, but more on that next issue. Here is a brief rundown:

We are putting the final touches on Autumn Wars/War Chest. Be sure to go to the Tabletop Events site and get your badge and sign up for events. (As of now we have 51) This is also the spot for getting your Warchest tables reserved. The flea Market Tables are free (up to 2) for members. So there is no excuse not to participate. I also wanted to let everyone know that all, who come to the con are eligible for the door prize drawing which will be held, Saturday night at 9:00 PM. Thanks again to the great folks at Iwata for their support. We will have HMGS-Midwest merchandise on sale for those who still did not get theirs. Some items are running out, so get there early. We will have three vendors displaying their exciting wares: Wargamer LLC, The Spruedude, and Battle Mat Bazaar. The info is up for our FOW Liberation of Italy Tournament, be sure to sign up now, and win some prizes courtesy of our sponsor Battlefront. Be sure to browse thru the "Sneak Peaks" to see a sample of what games will be running.
In order to help alleviate the on site food issue, will be catering food from; Carnitas Don Alfredo, a local favorite. On Saturday, for a $5 USD meal ticket (purchased at the desk) you can satisfy your hunger. We will also have complimentary bottled waters, but any other beverages is BYOB. We do have a call for volunteers. The entire BOD will be there working, but we could really use some extra help, especially for set-up and tear down.
