Investigating the Brescello Siege, I came across the Tercio (later Regimiento) Conde de Bonesana. It was a Spanish regiment — indeed the only one organised in two battalions — that took part in the early stages of the siege of Brescello. Information on it is extremely scarce, and this appears to be the first real study of the regiment itself. I am fully satisfied with the deductive result, as it helps to fill a gap. But what an effort. "… In the Ordonnance of 10 April 1702 it was established that each tercio (since 1704 called Regiment) shoud be on 1 battalion, except this regiment. It had 13 companies, whose 1 of grenadiers.
Each company had:
1 Captain
2 Lieutenants
2 Sergeants
3 Corporals
3 Lanspesadas
37 Men (arquebusers)
10 Pikemen
1 Drummer The Battalion staff ("plana mayor")
1 Field Master
1 Lieutenant Field Master
1 Sergeant Major
1 Adjutant
1 Quartermaster
1 Chaplain
1 Surgeon
