So this is on Mantics site:

"Unlike most miniature games, Kings of War uses multi‑based units instead of single figures. This small but revolutionary feature gives players the hobby opportunity to create dramatic unit dioramas, hugely speeds up gameplay, and makes transporting full armies easier, all while enhancing the spectacle of movie-like massed fantasy battles."

"all while enhancing the spectacle of movie-like massed fantasy battles."

I utterly dispute that from the top of the hill.

No doubt now, they are obviously 100% going down that road.

This explains why new boxes don't have individual bases included.

No figure removal is the main thing that held me back, now it seems locked in. Although you can remove ranks instead of wound markers, your still left with a full unit tray, unless you use house rules, if able.

Why????????

Why now with going all out on it, instead of just an option? I suspect TOW has a lot to do with it. As now you can't easily use mantic figures for TOW out of the box.

However GW already saw to that with larger bases.

Tit for tat, perhaps manic are using the unit bases to increase figure sizes, so they won't work on larger TOW based at all.

Evidence of this is in them upscaling the empire of dust statues a while back, possibly more since???

I get the modelling aspect of unit bases, although you can still do it on regular bases with a couple of 2x2s in the unit. The old WD with the gothic skeleton sprue release showed some great examples. So thats not really to do with it.

It's a money thing. It has to be.

A funny Ronny figure here or there for kicks, but this is going to be a range wide change, putting off a lot of potential and existing players. It's about making money.

Somehow, only allowing unit basing is expected to make manic more money.

But how???

Maybe because TOW players will have to rebase them anyway, due to larger base sizes? And perhaps most mantic figures are currently being bought for TOW? And there's less plastic in a unit base???

Perhaps unit bases were brought out but didn't sell well??? So Ronny's forcing people to buy dead stock???

I don't get it. Seeing a game article with a hord of zombies balanced on a tree was the straw. How very cinematic.

Now it's in stone, I'll try to figure it out.

Any ideas?
