With the new movie Uprising – some saying it is a new origin story for Robin Hood 200 or so years later than it has traditionally been… According to IMDB Seems there have been 188 movies, shorts, TV series, and musicals since 1908 – Live Action and Animated

Daffy, definitely. But my other is the classic ‘50s TV show (also titled The Adventures of Robin Hood), starring Richard Greene, with the fantastic theme song: "Robin Hood, Robin Hood

I enjoyed the '50s TV show also. For a different perspective, however, I recommend Robin and Marian with the aging Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn playing the aging legendary characters. |

It's the 1975 TV series ‘The Legend of Robin Hood' for me every time. Stays closer to the stories than most and is a good stab at a historical setting and I like the theme tune.
Filmwise, I'd also give an honourable mention to Patrick Bergin in Robin Hood. But that's not to say I don't enjoy most versions, Alan Rickman is a brilliant Sheriff and Russell Crowe has his moments, especially when they ambush the ambushes near the beginning of the film. |

Errol Flynn all the way! I enjoyed the tv show as a kid though. But Allen Rickard still has the best series of lines, which by the way he improvised. Sheriff of Nottingham: "Locksley! I'm going to cut your heart out with a spoon!"
Guy of Gisborne: "Why a spoon, cousin? Why not an axe?"
Sheriff of Nottingham: "Because it's dull, you twit! It'll hurt more!" Right after the Sheriff stabs his cousin Guy of Gisborne through the torso with a sword, he delivers a brilliant, dark callback to the spoon joke.As Guy collapses, the Sheriff looks down at him and says: "At least I didn't use a spoon"

Toaster – I too loved "When things where Rotten" when I was a child. I stumbled on a DVD of the series not long ago, and excitedly purchased it. I could not make it though the first episode. – Lesson learned, do not try to go back to your childhood. |

"When Things Were Rotten" had a scene where Sid Caesar as the French ambassador is trying to seduce Marion, played by Misty Rowe. Marion's goal was to keep Sid distracted while Robin and the Merry Men were up to something. Sid opened a bottle of wine and started pouring it into Marion's glass. "Say When." Marion's response is to smile and not say anything while Sid pours out bottle after bottle and the glass runneth over. I always think of this when I go to a restaurant and the server asks about putting grated cheese on my food, "Say when." And, no, I haven't had the nerve to play it out the way Misty did. Grelber |
