"New paints on Amazon(2)..." Topic

Does anyone have any experience with these new(to me) brands of acrylic paint? I found them on Amazon when I was searching for something else…

They are Micro-Mark and NicPro. They come in 20ml dropper bottles and have loads of colors, including military-themed sets. And the prices are well below the brand name hobby paints.

Really the last thing I need are more paints, but like you probably, I'm always interested new goodies.

I have not used Micro Mark paints but I have purchased plenty of tools from them over the years. My guess is these are locally sourced to avoid import tariffs. Here is a link to their website

I use craft paints, along with generic, mostly brush-tipped, acrylic paint pens (super-fast, no clean-up required!). If they might suit your needs, go ahead and buy a couple of bottles to test them out. Name brand paint pens were no better/no more effective than no-name, inexpensive brands: they all provide decent coverage; they all have the same advantages in usage; they all are functionally the same.

I have 2-3 lifetime's worth of acrylic craft paints in my collection, but when I discovered acrylic paint pens, I had to give them a go-round… I love them! I have purchased several color packs of them, and I do not plan to stop using them for the majority of my figure painting. They can't reach small, or deep, recesses, but they get the job done for 80%+ of the model's surfaces, and they are fast! I love them! (Deja Vu'!)

My craft paints are an investment, but a small one, so if they eventually get pitched in the garbage, I won't tear up. This is a hobby, and it is meant to be fun. Trying out new tools is fun, and the cost of said tools is low. If your hobby budget can handle the cost, go for it. Otherwise, if it can fund a test paint bottle, or two, go for it. ;-)

Sarge, I do share your fondness for paint pens. I have a few AK Real Color WW2 pens that I use for doing vehicles.

I've bought most of the Military Nicpro colors and used several of them. They worked fine. They have a needle type dropper. Colors are similar to Vallejo. Very inexpensive! More paint than a Vallejo bottle too.

Figure paints remind me of printer ink and toner pricing… There are competitors who are selling ink/toner at 1//5 the price of name brand companies, and they are including the required chips to make the printers accept their cartridges.

The same will happen, eventually, with miniature figure painting companies. Eventually, high quality, high pigment load, figure paints will become available at more reasonable prices. Cheers!
