Those are really nice. If the game had more figures like that I just might buy into it.

54, the game is miniature agnostic. The rules specifically say so. With that being said, they launched the game with fantastic STLs for six factions of figures. I have been blessed to have received a large warband of one of the factions.
In addition to the STLs, you can purchase printed figures on places like Etsy. Now they're getting into plasticfigures, which the Prussians are the first release. Two other new factions have just been released this week in essentially a big starter box. On top of that there are numerous Trench Crusade creators printing their own works. Lots to choose from. Trench Crusade has even more unannounced plastic sets in the pipeline as well.
The game itself is simple to play and a challenge to master. I have played about fifteen times and only have won about four times. Despite that, the game play has been a lot of fun. With rules proficiency games last one to two hours. The more figures used, the longer the games. I am even thinking about applying the game engine to sci-fi games in a galaxy far, far away.

myxemail, No I haven't even started assembling that set of minis. Most likely I will hold off until I get my Trojan Wars project finished (too many irons in the fire right now). They are amazing fiigures.

TheBeast, I was smitten the first time I saw the minis, I have more than a couple of periods that I collected just because of a miniature (this one helps because you need less than twenty for a complete force)

I know nothing of this game except the name, but I cannot refrain from pointing out that a long, heavy, two-handed sword without even a thrusting point is almost the worst possible melee weapon for the close, twisty confines of a trench that one could devise. (The sharpened spades, OTOH, are just the thing.)

These look great! I've been trying not to grab that box, though, because of all the backlog already.

As for the big swords, they're tanksplitter swords that are made to cut through heavy armor. Not all fights in Trench Crusade take place ina trench.
