"Which paint pens are best for 15mm figures?" Topic

Any suggestions for what works? Successes?

Specifically looking at belts, webbing and other smaller details

I got mine from Amazon. As long as they have a brush tip that is 1-5mm it should work fine. Get acrylic ink paint pens. I have bought multiple sets and all are good. Outstanding for painting belts, wheels, speartips, about anything unless it's hard to reach. I normally prime in the primary color and finish with paint pains playing a big part. Hobby paint pens are just too expensive. My Vallejo contrast ones worked well. But their is VERY little actual ink/paint in it.

Appreciate it John – any particular brand?

I have bought pens from 4 different companies. Frankly, pretty much the same. It's always good if they have extra Nibs and a fine and brush point double ends. Sometimes they only come with brush ends and that's ok. I store all of mine so they are laying on their side. Prevents nibs from drying out and other bad stuff with the ink so I am told. Definitely read the ratings and reviews.

I mainly use Posca paint pens, on anything from 6mm to 20mm. Finest points I can get.

Great pens, if not the cheapest, with good coverage.

As John and others have pointed out, it's hard to get at certain areas on both 28mm and 15mm figures with pens. So a traditional brush is still an essential tool as well. I have used pens from a variety of makers and all are useful.

My experience is similar. I have bought at least four brands of acrylic pens and can't tell any difference. I use the brush end and the fine tip as needed, and it is important to prime in a dark color because they will not reach into recesses. But for belts and stripes they are a treat. And yes, store them lying flat.
