John, I went to public school in Boston in the 1960s. We used to joke that our teachers (excuse me, that's "owah teachuz") were ex-nuns who were too mean to teach in parochial school and had to get jobs in public school. I don't know if it was true, but they were all unmarried middle-aged Boston Irish Catholics (Miss Walsh, Miss Devlin, and Miss Hennessy come to mind, in order from most to least traumatizing).
