I have been experimenting with some Activation rules to add some variety and unpredictability to War & Conquest.
I modified the "Non-player" activation rules from "Nuts!" – a WW2 skirmish sytem designed for solo play.

Last time it was Carthage v. Macedon
This time some time-traveling Vikings (but not by much) take on Somerled's Kingdom of the Isles – circa 1160.
