I will have to read that article. My grandfather was a B-24 bombardier with the 465th Bombardment Group, 783rd Bomb Squadron of the 15th. He was shot down by a FW-190 and was able to bail out but spent the rest of the war in a POW camp. He would often tell me the stories from the war and they were unvarnished and gritty. I can only imagine the emotional trauma he carried from the experience.
