Brendan Wheatley gave me a set of his DAK Attack rules via a good friend a few weeks ago, and now I have a small but decent collection of 15mm DAK, Luftwaffe and LRDG troops an vehicles (figures mainly Peter Pig, the vehicles mainly thanks to Mike Bergman and his excellent free STLs). Whilst I was printing off the Chevvies I saw that he did a very nice Italian Saharina recce vehicle. So I'm now looking for recommendations for figures for my Italian unit. The few pictures I have seen of recce troops has them wearing caps rather than helmets, but the Peter Pig figures all seem to be helmetted. All suggestions welcomed :) |

1. Command Decision Italian infantry via Old Glory 25 or Skytrex. 2. Battlefront. |

I believe you are looking for the Bustina Field Cap: link I did not find this in 15mm, but the scale is somewhat forgiving, so you could model them with Petter Pig's "46. WW2 German combat cap". Which is pretty close. You could even shave off the bill to give you a mix of men in the continental version and tropical version. |

David, Our group of 6 weekly gamers just adore DAK Attacks! We play it in 28mm, so I cannot give you any advice on figures. However, I've made up a lot of material to play the game with: Detailed maps Vehicle control sheets A modified vehicle movement list A detailed Cheet Sheet Counters for the Axis sentries and more! Send you email address to jfsudek(at)yahoo(dot)com cheers |

Could it be that most pictures were taken , when they weren't in "action" ? The Mardav kit has the crew in helmets . link |

Col Piron That model appears to be depicting the crew as Bersaglieri (Elite light troops) from the large plume of cock feathers. I do not believe this is very common. The sun helmet and steal helm would have been options for any of the Italian North African troops, but as the original poster, David Manley, pointed out, most of the photos of Auto-Saharina show the crew with soft caps (the Bustina Field Cap). But of course most photos are taken way from the actual action, so there is a good chance they switched to steal helms when the shooting starts. |
