NOT trying to start a fight, but to understand. There are ideas and people for whom I feel a visceral hatred, and it is not beyond reason, but a reaction to perceived threats to values I hold dear.

So if you have such hated of AI, can you explain to me (us) what it is based on? And perhaps give some sense of what involvement or exposure to AI you have had? WHY do you feel as you feel?

Why do you like it.

Actually find it extremely useful. Sometimes have to work with it to get by the programmer bias ingrained in certain search AIs of some companies.

Actually good for medical questions and information. Again you have to drill through a few iterations. But it has diagnosed some things exactly. Matched exactly what doctors diagnosed the next day.

So pretty happy with it and will only get better each year.

Because too many people think it is 100% accurate and it isn't. Because in my history courses students use it on their papers and this leads to them not doing their own work and become lazy. Because, in the long run, it will make us an even dumber race of people.

Because I watched a movie called The Terminator back in 1984.

Why do i like it? Because I can research things I never dreamed of, in almost no time. Because it is FUN!! I can create images of anything I want -- right now Comanches and rangers.

Of course it makes mistakes. I subscribe to ChatGPT and also GROK and use them to cross-check each other. Like any powerful tool it can be used badly, or for bad purposes (two different things). But it is a gigantic saver of tiemand energy and wille xpand our human capabilities in many ways.

I don't hate it, I just don't trust it. (And I don't trust the companies and programmers who construct the algorithms for it.)

It also annoys me greatly that anyone is calling it Artificial Intelligence— because it's not the latter by any measure.

I'm not saying it can't be a powerful tool; I'm saying it's one we should examine very closely and question very specifically. It has no ability to actually think; we assume that it does at our peril. But that's not its fault— it's ours.
