I was walking around my city, searching for the remains of the hilltop defences built during the Siege of Turin in 1706. And, much to my surprise, I found sections of the original walls still standing, hidden and almost lost beneath the vegetation.

I have contacted a friend who works for the City of Turin to see whether it might be possible to recover and preserve them.

Most importantly, however, I found the remains of the small fort which once stood on the summit and defended Turin from above. Sadly, it is now partly destroyed.

or the first time, I have drawn an accurate map of the hilltop defences. I know the area extremely well, having lived there all my life, and I then overlaid my reconstruction onto a modern map of Turin.

Sounds like great fun! I have tried to explore some of the places I have lived, though I have never lived somewhere that dated back anywhere near as far as Turin. I have also looked for specific places in various cities I have visited, a few of which come under the heading of, "No, I don't think I will come back here after dark."

Best of luck with your efforts to have at least of a few of the places you have found rehabilitated to show the city's history.

Amazing effortI certainly hope the city decides to preserve at least some of the works.
