I don't have a game for this particular battle and the maps I am finding on the internet are not as detailed as I need to do a game with. So if you don't mind I could use a little input. I am going to use nine boxes/sections to represent the battlefield in a 3x3 arrangement. From what I have read i should make most of them "woods" and one of the center boxes should also have a hill to represent the hornets nest. I did read somewhere that during Grants last stand close to the river at least part of the area was also on a hill, so I am thinking I should make at least one of the rear three boxes on the union side also have a hill. I have not read that the Union had any entrenchment work to speak of and basically the terrain itself helped the union out as much as anything else. So…I am think may 6-7 of the 9 boxes need to be wooded with 2 of them having hills on them? Does that sound correct or should there be more open area or no open, clear boxes? Thanks! |
