"Can you use ECW figures for any TYW armies?" Topic

I don't know much about either period, so I don't know if military fashion was significantly different in Europe. Basically, I have some ECW figures and I want to know if they can be anything other than ECW troops. Thanks.

I have read, that ECW uniforms included shorter jackets as the climate of the British Isles was more temperate than mainland Europe at this time, so it was warmer.
I've also read that there was less access to material in the British Isles than Europe, so that was why the coats were shorter.

Personally, I don't know that many people would be bothered by using ECW figures as TYW. I wouldn't be bothered.

Absolutely. ECW and late TYW armies have far more similarities than differences. With suitable flags and a willingness to overlook some clothing details, ECW figures can serve as many TYW armies.

I've always been puzzled by this type of question.
Who, exactly, are you asking permission from? The toad at a convention who picks up a figure, holds it in front of his nose, and sneers? Who cares what they think?
Or your wallet?

As for me, I've looked at plates of both. Frankly, I can't tell the difference. It's like looking at 28mm SYW Austrian "German" and "Hungarian" musketeer figures. Is there a difference? 🤷
The end result is whether the trousers are painted white or red.

"Would they look out of place?"
That's a far better question than "Can I use."

You don't need "permission".
"As the colonel shall decide." is far better.

I like the over all look and don't mind that the jackets might be shorter than supposed to be. Also in the pike and shotte devils playground book, many of those figs are shorter than supposed tops.

Great video: a useful & comprehensive account of your army. I could wish everyone would list manufacturers, paints used, bases etc in overviews of their armies.

Your army is spectacular & the diorama of the surgeon is very effective. Well done.

Thanks ochion! It has doubled plus in size since that video. Cory and I will revisit that project in another update by end of summer.

I use my Pike and Shot troops interchangeablely all the time. It's only a bunch of blokes with pikes, boring clothes and big hats. I might do a few special units (Pappenheims Cuirassiers, Rupert and his dog etc) but really, the bulk of them are all much the same.
