"In the modern Western world, we tend to make rather Euro-centric assumptions about the past. We even do this with cultures and societies that were thousands of miles from Europe. One great example of this is how we often think that all past societies operated under a patriarchal model. Often, though, when you dig below the layers of kings, emperors, and powerful warriors, you find stories of strong women and the venerated roles they held among their people. In the Aztec world, we find a number of stories just like this. While men held positions of political and religious power, women were seen as just as important to the future of the Aztec empire as men.
