He and the few who did rally to him, at this seemingly hopeless stage of the war, showed incredible courage and optimism. If only the government had fled to North Africa, as did those of Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands to the UK, as legitimate governments in exile. What a different course the war might have taken.

@deadhead yes a « what if » that should have for sure chance one very important point… french gouvernement had not been collaborationist with German invaders! 😢
This man left such a mark on his era that all the contenders for the future presidency of the French Republic claim him as their own, calling themselves Gaullists… poor Charles must be turning in his grave when hearing it from some of them! 🙄
