…swapping and cartridge changes "U.S. Special Operations Command will begin fielding the MK24 Medium Range Gas Gun Assault before the end of the fiscal year, furthering SOCOM's shift away from legacy cartridges like the 7.62mm NATO round, according to a recent report.
SOCOM spokesman Navy Cmdr. Joe Vermette told Task & Purpose the MRGG-A will completely replace the MK17 SCAR. He added that SOCOM is "pursuing a rapid fielding method" to "multiple (Special Operational Force) components." link

Seems like our military is becoming fragmented. In the minute it takes to change barrels an AK can chop 'em into chutney. |

You wouldn't have the whole fireteam changing barrels at once, just like the only one rank of riflemen would fire at a time 250 years ago. |

So more logistics are good? I get a soccom need to align with partner forces, how much do they rely on local supply? But thinking of this capability for main line forces it seems like a case of overthinking something that should probably be kept simple. Settle on the best overall round and if need be make the saw/lmg pick up the other end. |

Linked this on a Gun thread elsewhere, not much cheering about it. |
