A 'peasant' would surely be a member of a family of agricultural labourers or subsistence farmers and dress in plain, simple, homespun clothes to work in the fields. If this girl began life as a peasant, she has surely moved to the nearest town and become an entirely different type of 'working girl' enjoying better wages and less back-breaking drudgery…
