I found these on Amazon, the price ($5.95 + tax + S/H) was very reasonable, and the description states that they have "brush tips" (AHEM!), they should be perfect for painting miniatures… They lied about the brush tips: they have hard plastic tips. After shaking the pens for 30 seconds, they say to press the hard plastic tips down a few times, to get the paint flowing. ACK! At first, this seemed to be a non-starter. Well, the colors are fantastic, the price was extremely affordable, and since I have them anyway, I gave them a go… If I get the tip loaded with paint (press it down on the MDF unfinished figure base, where a little paint won't hurt as it will be covered when I finish the base), I can then apply the paint, gently, to the figure without scraping off the primer. I persevered and I loaded up the hard tips with paint (used pen on the left, unused pen on the right, showing the hard tip sans paint) -- and it worked! Eureka! Not ideal but it does work I have a number of these hard plastic tipped paint pens from an earlier set I purchased -- before I learned of the actual "brush tip" pens. I stopped using them fairly quickly because I had to press the tips against the figure's surface to keep the paint flowing, and I did, in fact, scrape off some primer doing that. Now, at least, I know how to employ the older pens to get my money's worth out of them. The hard tips require a little extra effort, and a little extra time, compared to regular, soft, brush tip pens. However, as you can see in the photo of the colored caps, the variety of skin tones they provide, is amazing for the price! Not only will I use these for skin, but they can also be used for different shades of leather colors -- did I mention there are 20 shades in the box? Thought I would share in case others are interested. Cheers! |

All my efforts to use paint pens have been disasters. Must be a knack that I lack. |

Some pictures of the figures with paint on would be nice. |

I've been using Micron pens for years now to do eyes, lips, outlining, and small details. I've even used them for stripes on trousers. They work pretty well, if you are careful not to scrape the primer off. The only other problem I've had is that once you touch the pen to the figure, you have to move it to leave ink behind, giving a little bit of a straight line. Goats have pupils that are kind of linear; people don't/ Recently, Micron. Recently, Micron brought out pens with a brush tip, which work pretty well, but they don't come in anything near the variety of colors these seem to. Given their relatively low price, I think I will have to try these out. Thanks for the find, Sgt Slag! Grelber |

I just got these Tuesday from Amazon, link and they ARE brush tips and do paint just like brushes (for my limited painting skills). I've been touching up bad painting (eliminating fried egg wyeballs) and lightening bad sunburns so far… |

I just got these Tuesday from Amazon, link and they ARE brush tips and do paint just like brushes (for my limited painting skills). NICE, Sergeant Paper! I wish that I had found those first! Now I have to make due with what I have, until they're gone. I did not look closely enough at the tips on the pens I bought… Caveat Crap-tor, for me. LOL! Thanks for sharing! I've added your pens to my wish list on Amazon. Cheers! |

BillyNM:Some pictures of the figures with paint on would be nice. Here is a link to a photo of a Centaur in progress: sprayed with very rough coating of automotive gray primer, his body is painted with a darker "skin color", while his tale is painted with a lighter shade of "skin color", each paint from the new pen set. I was careful to basically wick the paint off of the hard plastic tip, to avoid scraping off any primer paint -- and it worked. The paint provides good coverage, and I really like the colors! Cheers! |

I have bought probably a dozen different sets of various tips and colors -- easy to do as they are very inexpensive. There IS a knack to it, or knacks. But the fine tips are great for doing lines and straps, and the brush tips make painting large areas very fast. I find learning to use the new stuff an enjoyable challenge. There IS a learning curve or curves but for me it is well worth it. |

Right now I am doing faces with pink/peach, full strength brush on, but then next day I use a "tan" skin pen (brush tip) which I had noted does not give good coverage, but it DOES flow into cracks and give a quick and pretty good effect for shading. |

Sorry, doing more painting tonite, it is not actually a brush, but it paints like a loaded rounded pointed brush. I think its some kind of foam, maybe? I still don't see any scratching the previous paint, it puts paint onto the mini much like a brush. I still recommend these pens. |

I picked up a set of either 18 or 24 skin tone paint pens a few months back. Brush tip and work fine. They were out of stock pretty quickly after I got mine. I'll bet I do at least 50% of my painting with paint pens now. Maybe more. I usually prime in the base color if possible. That's how I got almost 40 figs for BLKOUT painted in a day and a half for games I was running at Cincycon. Otherwise, a light gray spray primer. Then paint pens and or contrast paints/pens. Other paints sometimes used too. I love washes and some drybrushing. Thanks. John |
