I found these on Amazon, the price ($5.95 + tax + S/H) was very reasonable, and the description states that they have "brush tips" (AHEM!), they should be perfect for painting miniatures…
They lied about the brush tips: they have hard plastic tips. After shaking the pens for 30 seconds, they say to press the hard plastic tips down a few times, to get the paint flowing. ACK! At first, this seemed to be a non-starter.
Well, the colors are fantastic, the price was extremely affordable, and since I have them anyway, I gave them a go…
If I get the tip loaded with paint (press it down on the MDF unfinished figure base, where a little paint won't hurt as it will be covered when I finish the base), I can then apply the paint, gently, to the figure without scraping off the primer. I persevered and I loaded up the hard tips with paint (used pen on the left, unused pen on the right, showing the hard tip sans paint) -- and it worked! Eureka! Not ideal but it does work
I have a number of these hard plastic tipped paint pens from an earlier set I purchased -- before I learned of the actual "brush tip" pens. I stopped using them fairly quickly because I had to press the tips against the figure's surface to keep the paint flowing, and I did, in fact, scrape off some primer doing that. Now, at least, I know how to employ the older pens to get my money's worth out of them.
The hard tips require a little extra effort, and a little extra time, compared to regular, soft, brush tip pens. However, as you can see in the photo of the colored caps, the variety of skin tones they provide, is amazing for the price!
Not only will I use these for skin, but they can also be used for different shades of leather colors -- did I mention there are 20 shades in the box?
Thought I would share in case others are interested. Cheers!
