Mantic forces of nature are pre release and state "unit bases." It really is looking like they are abandoning individual bases. For me this is another block, along with not removing casualties. If they are on unit bases you certainly can't. From a company that emulated GW, they are now doing everything they can to be as different as possible. It's weird. GW blew up the Warhammer world, so many migrated to mantic, by Mantic's design. Now with the old world out and mantic doing funny things, back we go. Only now people are probably using their old KOW armies for TOW. My head hurts. It is a shame, as early KOW had a nice look to it. Now it's gone all cutesy bootsy. But from pokimon and world of warcraft, it's likely more appealing to kids, and girls, I'd expect. Something GW has been moving away from. Hopefully Ronnie will hit his head in the bathroom and come up with the brainwave of doing his own "old world", preserving the original KOW armies, and likely rules style (perhaps with added unit removal options, as you can do it, removing models or ranks instead of adding wound counters). This could also preserve the individual bases. "The Age of Mantica" or something. Dreading what they may do to undead at this point. You can do it Ronnie, you can do it Ronnie. Ronnie, Ronnie, he's our man… We live in hope. |

You can buy your own bases, you know. |

I could do lots of things. Why should you have to buy your own bases? Why can't the boxes simply come with the bases? Why is it left up to the customer to fork out more for what Mantic should be doing in the first place? |

Oh no! Not GIRLS! 🤷 How much more betrayal can you take??? Bases are cheap. Go to Phalanx Consortium, among many others, for a wide variety of Or, and this is EXTREMELY RADICAL… Cut your own from balsa, bass, thick card… |

"ummm, their game their rules…?" Yes, that does appear to be the change. It used to be their game GW rules. The style changed, armies, now the bases. They have gone from desperately needing Warhammer players, to happily disposing of some players like Kleenex. It does look like they are definitely ditching individual bases. I suspect some new figures numbers actually couldn't be mounted on regular individual bases, but haven't checked for sure. "Oh no! Not GIRLS!" Guessing you miss games nights at GW. "Bases are cheap." So why don't they put them in. Actually I know why. Mantic have obviously done their research and figured out most of their players are existing kow players who use unit bases. Thus they already have dice from boxes games also, hense no individual bases or dice in the new boxes. It would look odd for mantic to change their base size to match GW for tow. However, maybe using unit bases could hide this? Though I think itis more mantic feeding off their own popularity and pleasuring the many, as thet no longer require the few who may complain or move on. Typical. They are becoming their own enemy. Vomit sprues, the whole 9 yards. That's the way they seem to be headed. Hobby to rattly boxes, just like GW. Obviously tow shook things up a bit, I think we are starting to see the fallout as mantic go for completely different, rather than similar. Problem is, two major players are always very similar, Pepsi/Coke, Macca's/Hungry jacks (BK), Woolies/Coles, Ford/Holden(GM), so on. Two competing games can't be too different either, or they are no longer competing and one loses. Question is, who? (Apart from us) PS No mermen (or whatever they were) for forces of nature? Baby Ungore instead? Is this another major army change? Is this getting like star wars special editions? PPS Yes, and no. The mermen still have their own army. The baby Ungore were merged from… their beastmen army! Complete with Ponyfied centors!! Grief! Not sure about girls, but it's sure to draw the Bronies… |

If their game system uses unit or multi-figure bases, I would expect them to provide bases for their own system -- not the system of a competitor. It is not any different than asking GW to provide multi-figure bases because you want to use their figures with a different rules set. |

Only, that was the entire point of kings of war figures, to use them for other games. The kings of war rules came after the figures, from my understanding. Mantic made it sound like it was public pushing/attitude that convinced them to write rules for the figures. Also individual bases have been part of Kow since the beginning, and are still sold in most packs, as far as I know. However, the new boxes suggest a change. Even now players may with to add something new to their army, but the bases are different. It's obvious they are trying to be as unlike Warhammer as possible, however, that's coming from a game and miniatures range that was meant to emulate Warhammer by design. Even so far as to print rules in a separate book, incase GW send them a cd, in which case they wouldn't be forced to pull the main rule book. There is a huge shift in fantasy wargaming occuring. AOS is under change, TOW is under change, KOW is obviously under change. I'm guessing LOTR may join them, or just be discontinued, especially with the fantasy changes at GW. What will be left after the dust settles?? |

H Man, While not my area of interest, I always find your posts very interesting (if not understanding some of the 3 letter acronyms). |

Kids these days. First they want castings sold by box or bag instead of just telling the manufacturer how many they want. Then they want the manufacturer to include bases for a system the manufacturer isn't selling. Would you like Mantic Games to roll the dice for you too? Life is full of choices. Stick to rules sold by the guy who sells the figures, and base them the way he tells you to. OR Play the rules you want, buy the figures anywhere you please, and regard any included base compatible with your favorite rules as a freebie. Good commercial bases are readily had these days. |

"Hey, you brought it up." Actually, as you clearly point out, yet don't appear to acknowledge, I only suggested they may appeal to girls. "if not understanding some of the 3 letter acronyms" Cheers. Perhaps that needs TMP page of some type? There are a few, games, materials, processes, dice, WEBSITES!!!.., The TMP glossary. Or such like. "Then they want the manufacturer to include bases for a system the manufacturer isn't selling. Would you like Mantic Games to roll the dice for you too?" That's extremely ignorant. Especially at I just mentioned above that KOW has, and was designed for individual bases. Please read before posting. PS Yes. Mantic are still selling units with 20mm bases. Likely, they were first selling for Warhammer proxies. Then the end times and KOW boombed. Now TOW and Mantic don't want people using their figures for it, as it will pull away from KOW, so are now trying to reverse all that so KOW doesn't suffer. They must shift a lot of their sprues through starter boxes. |
