Ohio still has a naval militia. |

New Jersey had one a few years ago, not sure if it is still active. |

Ohio's is active. They operate out of Camp Perry and keep recreational boaters out of the impact zone. |

I wonder if maintaining a viable naval militia is why there are state sponsored maritime academies (ME, MA, NY, Tex A&M; CA; Great Lakes)? |

I think not. They mostly provide officers for commercial shipping operations. I think they are simply filling a need. They also receive federal funds and equipment. |
