Hello--
Looking for easy to learn/fast play Gladiator Rules. I currently played Habet, Hoc Habet! at our local convention this weekend. The seem to be out of print.
Any other suggestions that are in print?

Thanks.

My group had a lot of fun testing "Dicing with Death" a few years back link

I think I have the 2016 version. The rules are very simple and quick-play. There are cards laid down to replicate the arena floor. Each gladiator type has three attributes (agility, defense, attack IIRC) and one or two specialty attacks/moves.

The game is card driven, and similar to Wings of War, you plot your actions by selecting cards from your hand. There are wounds, sudden kills, crowd momentum, etc. I'm a fan, I like to break it out when a larger club game ends early or if I'm limited on time and attention span. Individual matchups can last a while (15-20 minutes) or end in an instant. Not sure if you can handle more than 1 on 1 matchups.

Good timing, the current issue of Wargames Illustrated #462 includes a free quickstart rules version of Blood on the Sands (the full game is in print) and a sprue of 4 plastic gladiators.

It takes awhile to cross the pond, I'm waiting for it to show up at my FLGS.

Also worth going to Freewargame rules online. I know there are a couple of sets at least there.

Okay , this is gonna seem weird and I never tried it this way but it might be fun. Eureka , miniatures , those are rules set for the three musketeers. I think it's called all for one. Hi , bet that could be adapted for gladiators.

Oh I meant that.I've never tried it as gladiators.I have tried the rules for the three musketeers. It's a blast.

Jugula, from Studio Tomahawk, is a great game. Teams of gladiators on each side.

Melee is free from SJ Games. It became the basis for The Fantasy Trip roleplaying game. It's great! Lots of tactics, good for two to twelve fighters. If you get the RPG you get a lot more weapons skills and unusual weapons. Even just getting The Space Gamer issue #13 which has the unusual weapons article will help a lot, since it has some gladiator weapons and fun stuff. The Space Gamer issues from 27 on are available from SJ Games as PDFs, but if you look around you can find the older issues including #13 online.

If you want a really interesting game for very small number of fighters Melee is the ticket, and free!

Any set particularly good for large groups at a con?

Didn't get to play, but there was a good sized game of Blood on the Sands running at Huzzah that looked like everyone was enjoying.

That seems to be the new hotness. I made sure and ordered the WI with the quick start rules and the gladiator sprue.

I really like the Two Hour Wargames rules, I've played those the most. I liked the dice pool version, I like the newer version, Red Sand Blue Sky will give you a good game.
