"''15mm'' French Imperial Guard cavalry" Topic

Having reviewed the market, I am seriously considering AB 18mm for these units. Can someone tell me the height in mm from top of base to the rider's eye level? I am comparing them to the range of 15mm cavalry I already have.

The Deep Fried Happy Mice site has some comparisons – For Napoleonic – only Infantry right now – however the Civil War compares AB Cavalry to other manufacturers – if that helps

Thanks for the steer. I was aware of that site, but it was a useful revisit.
The bulk of my 15mm figures are Lancashire Games. The infantry are 17.25mm sole of foot to top of head. AB are slightly less than 19.5mm. Put another way, the 17.25mm equating to 5'7.5" (my typical average Napoleonic soldier) means the AB 19.5mm is rather more than 6'4" (or approximately 13% larger).
I may just send off for half a dozen sample figures and see what they look like in comparison.

Beware of the Rabbit Hole. Once you see the quality of AB figures (in any scale frankly) you may end up starting all over again.

Proportions are not those of a Hobbit, surfaces are smoother than many a metal casting in 28mm and detail is in a high relief to aid painting.

To avoid wastage should you find them too large, obviously choose figures that can "stand alone" such as Command, ADCs, or maybe Grenadiers a Cheval, who were meant to be very tall after all

After amassing about 1800 Lancashire Games Austrian and French Napoleonic figures (all painted by others) I finally got around to adding some French Imperial Guard units, starting with 12pdr and 6pdr foot and horse artillery. I opted for AB 18mm for the gunners and pieces and they do look excellent, as well as being relatively isolated from other units and thus not too much out of 'scale'. Since I have not found another manufacturer for the cavalry that comes anywhere near the aesthetic quality of AB I may just put up with the size issue and admire the visuals.

It is my age, but she was every young lad's dream at Woodstock and is still going strong, well still going anyway.

I only have AB 1/72 figures from WWII and most are sitting in the attic awaiting some time when the Waterloo in 20mm project is done to become Cuban Revolutionaries on an Easy Eight or French 2eme DB matelots on M10 TDs and M8 armoured cars

I use predominantly AB's across all of my armies. But a large proportion of my late Russian infantry is Lancashire. I find they work together well.

Thanks for the note, Nick. My Lancashire Games cavalry are 25mm to 26mm from underside of the figure base to eye level. If you have your AB figures to hand it would be really useful to me to have a comparative measurement.

AB cavalry ( a figure chosen at random from my reference collection ) comes out at 27mm. There will be some slightly taller, some slightly shorter.

I like AB figures a lot but I keep them in their own units.

AB figures have arrived, courtesy of Eureka Miniatures here in the UK. For information, here are the figure dimensions presented as the seated figure from sole of boot to perceived top of head and the mounted figure from top of base to perceived top of head.

Chasseurs a cheval – 18.5mm / 26mm
Empress Dragoons – 19.5mm / 26.5mm
Grenadiers a cheval – 19.5mm / 27mm
Polish/Dutch lancers – 19mm / 27mm

I am delighted with the castings.
