"Jason and the Argonauts as a wargaming project." Topic

Inspired by the current Poll Suggestion on Harryhausen movies. Before the poll even runs in a few months, Jason and the Argonauts looks like a clear winner.
Let's game it.

Let's start with the Skeletal Warriors. I just Googled 28mm skeletal warriors, and this was my first hit.

I'm sure there are shield decals available out there. Link? In my misspent yoot, I hand painted the Gorgon's head. But I'm older and wiser now.

My first thought was a 25mm trireme from Old Glory Shipyards. Other suggestions welcome. Other suggestions welcomed.

Wasn't there a series on wargaming the Argonautica in Slingshot a few years ago?

Saw a Wargame display of Jason and the Argonauts at the Legionary show in Exeter UK yesterday. V.impressive.

Should you begin with battling the Hydra? Not necessarily one-on-one as the beast's many heads make it a unit.

The less said about Medea the better…

79th PA provided the Foundry link to Greek Mythical characters, including the awesome hydra and skeletons, but there is also a range of Foundry Argonauts, which makes it even more tempting.

A very worthy subject, and the Foundry links have already been provided. Excellent figures. I have a number of these doing general duty in my Hellenic forces.

I'm in a Shadows of Brimstone campaign with their new Greek Champions expansion with some TMPers of long past. We play over Discord, and one acts as our "board manager," setting up the tiles and miniatures. He used Crocodile Games figures for our five Greek heroes, all quite nicely done, with very active poses (the one for my character is depicted at a run, which is ironic as invariably I roll the slowest movement numbers of us all). He also has some Wargames Atlantic and Victrix models that would work, too.

Alas, the SoB rules don't currently include Greek mythology settings or monsters, so it all feels a little strange. So far we've fought in mythological Japan, "Cinder" (which is basically an SF Hell), a brief foray into some "Blasted Plains" apoc setting, and the ubiquitous Weird Wild West. I really wish it was more Jason and the A's, but alas, not yet.

The Greek Champions are very different from other heroes. They tend to be weaker at the start (low Health, low Sanity, no standout stats), but better equipped with some weapons and armor abilities unusual for the game. They also get "Gifts of the Gods" which is basically a random divine spell, granted by a patron deity, who also gives that same hero a unique ability followers of other deities don't get. On the other hand, you're also saddled with a nemesis deity who for some reason hates your guts, and curses you with some significant disadvantages (which honestly are hard to remember in the midst of a game). It's all quite clever, though I think the Nemesis curses are overdone, especially as there's no game procedure for ending one.

Would be neat to see this work in a straight Greek mythology setting rather than the full SoB bag of weirdness.

New Mythical Greek Heroes campaign set from Osprey is just out or coming soon.

Crocodile Games has some nice Greek figures in their WarGods of Olympus line. Plus some monsters.

I've heard good things about the Wargames Atlantic plastic multipart skeletons kit, but I've not gotten any to try.

For me the key is "accurate" Greek figures. The Nolan movie has rather nondescript black armor. At one time I had a nice Trojan War army from Redoubt and Foundry. That would be after the Argonauts.
Even matching the Harryhausen movie would be fine.
