That's very well done.

I like everything except the supplies. Those really break it for me. It appears that they are parked in the little strip of green space next to a Wal-Mart.

The 113, especially the markings, and the soldiers are expertly done and weathered. The supplies are too clean and retail-looking. In Vietnam (?) the would certainly have retail supplies. Most of that stuff would have been repackaged into standard size crates for logistics.

The best bit of packing is the open box that the guy in the bak in looking through- one of the flaps is folded like it would be if you just opened it. But I would still expect to see tape, uneven rips, corners with shelf and handling wear, and other dirt.

Artistically, the cleanliness of the supplies (and there are a lot to be shoved in the APC) does create an alien effect. Maybe that was the intent. It just breaks the scene for me.

Thanks… even that…. an astounding work….

I agree with etotheipi but when I looked at the packaging being pristine as the supplies were just looted from a civilian warehouse, not regular issue.

Did Army medics have the red cross on their uniform?

Great work!

There is a lot of great work in that diorama and generally exceptional modelling.

It does not seem to land for me due to being too 'busy' and having no coherent 'story'.

It looks wrong to have a medic working on a casualty while others just relax or examine the supplies.

I have never seen red cross markings on medics or corpsmen in photos of Vietnam. But that of course doesn't mean it never happened.

The Red Cross was part of the uniform for combat medics and corpsmen at the time. It wasn't always worn.

Per the Geneva Convention, soldiers wearing the Red Cross emblem are not to be targeted (and not to engage in offensive combat operations). There was signficant belief in the US forces that those rules would not be honored, and the emblem might actually lead to targeting, since taking out a medic amplifies the effects of casualties.

BTW, SOM is an Army combat medic. And I have long said that driving in the Washington DC metro area, I would prefer to have a M-113 APC.

etotheipi,
Here is an M113 parked across the street from Home Depot in Concord, CA but I did not see a for sale sign on it.

If the diorama was Marines all of the cases of beer would have been empty, crushed beer cans laying all over the place, the guy laying down would be passed out, one would be urinating against the tracks, and 2 or more would be fighting just for the hell of it.
