Because TMP is suffering from "Board Bloat".

How many times do you wander the Board Index looking for the "perfect, correct board"? How many times do you see:
– Sorry I posted this to the wrong board
– I'm not sure if this is where this belongs
– I need a board for my kumquat smoothie recipe
– I know this doesn't go here, but…

Wait, all you need to do is use the search funct…oh, sorry. Well, you can use DuckDuckGo to find the specific topic, but that is another step.

Maybe the Board count should be reduced to general areas or periods. I mean then we could have fewer boards defined by the period, war, genre, or hair color of the generals.
Then it becomes the responsibility of the OP to detail the post in the topic heading.

Anyway, I'll close the door as I leave. (Gee, I hope I posted this on the right board)

Board mergers can be proposed just like any other TMP poll suggestion.

It would help if there was an explanation somewhere of what boards are and what they do. I think people respond to the "should we have a War Of Jenkin's Ear" board" question as "should we be allowed to talk about WOJE" instead of "would be useful to isolate conversations about WOJE". At least that's my guess. I suspect there are a few other uses for and feelings about additional boards.

But at this point it's such a morass I'm not sure adding or removing a board here or there will change the user experience much. You just have to subscribe to nearly all the boards and be thankful there's only ten to twenty new topics to skim each day. It's not hard to see what you need to skim and skim it. If we had ten times as much traffic TMP might become unusable. Compare that to BGG which has thousands of times the traffic but is still very usable.

The *real* problem is that you have to manually reload topics to see if anyone has responded to your comments/questions. I have no idea how to manage that well.

I thought discussions on Boards was supposed to be posted to the "TMP Talk" board and not as an automatic poll suggestion.
