WOW! It is really interesting and informative to see the routes many of us took to get to where we are today. In fact, I'm getting inspired to go back and revisit some of these "grand old rules". How about you? |

SL/ASL were fun and exciting, but even when we were playing scenarios 10+, we kept going back to the very first scenario to clarify rules on LOS, and other "basic" game rules… The rules were way too complex. Man, I have great memories of the games, though. I no longer play anything other than 2e BattleSystem fantasy miniatures games (far too infrequently), and my Plastic Wars games (FAR, far too infrequently!). Cheers! |

The first miniatures rules I played were Column, Line, and Square (CLS) and The Sword and the Flame (TSATF). Those two rule sets sparked my love of Napoleonics and Colonials in general. I 'graduated' to Empire at some point, but stayed loyal and true to TSATF. |

Revisiting, hmm. Well, I've never 'unvisited' OGRE/GEV or DBA; BattleTech, I've moved on to Alpha Strike. The Muse though just struck with a thought that surprisingly has eluded me all these years — reskinning OGRE for WW2. Coming from playing PanzerBlitz and Panzer Leader, Tractics and even Angriff were insanely complex for the sort of game I wanted to enjoy. OGRE however was taken directly from PB/PL and given a sci-fi flavour. I've long since moved from Command Decision to Blitzkrieg Commander, but OGRE-style would run even faster play for exactly what I was wanting when I started collecting ROCO thanks to Wargamers' Digest Standard Units. |
