I have 28mm Perry British Camel Corps Miniatures: 24 mounted and 24 dismounted. I would represent a Guards Regiment and the Ryal Marine Light Infantry. What subtle uniform identification(s) can I paint to distinguish the regiments? |

Illustration C2 in the Osprey "The Sudan Campaigns 1881-1898" shows a grey frock coat without collar badges or shoulder titles…. Appendix I of Count Gleichen's "With the Camel Corps up the Nile" lists the Royal Marines detachment (4 officers, 9 NCOs (including one bugler) and 93 men) as part of the Guards' Camel Regiment, which had seven other detachments (three drawn from the Grenadier Guards, two each from the Coldstream and Scots Guards) each of two officers, five NCOs (including a bugler) and 38 men. If you really want to distinguish the detachments, a sketch facing the title page of Gleichen's book shows a mounted man with 1 over GG on the middle of his right arm (where you'd expect to see NCOs' stripes), and a sketch on page 159 shows "After Abu Kru (Private Rooke, of the Queen's Company)" with 1 over CG on his right arm.
